Actually I hear PS1 games will also be backwards compatible. Sony's not that stupid to ignore the PS1 generation.
 
Hes right, i have also read that the PS3 runs at 120 FPS (Frames Per Second, the xbox or ps2 is at 30 or 60 FPS) which can be bad for most tv's because they cant comprehend that. There are always pros and cons though.
