US Navy rescues sick child from disabled sailboat

I'm not saying you're wrong but you might have more credibility after you have children of your own.
my opinion remains the same even if I have my own children. there's nothing more than I would love exposing my own kids to nature and all... just like what my parents did for me. this is no different from taking kids with you to hunting or camping trip out in the boondocks.

to quote Walter Mitty... "I just live by the ABC’s. Adventurous. Brave. Creative."

I hope parents who take risks with their kids don't expect government agencies to always come to their rescue.
I'm sure they didn't expect them to come to their rescue but it was a very dire situation and it was completely justified. none at all. obviously I would have a problem with stupid people but in this case.... they did all they could and all options have failed. I see no problem in this matter.

The point is, you don't have kids, so you can't really say what you would do until it happens.

You realize that he wasn't real, and that he never experienced the ABC's?

As long as they realize that there will be times when there will be no one available to come to their rescue.

Just FYI (to everyone): the Coast Guard performs civilian rescues at sea as part of their mission but the Navy does not. If the Navy can assist in a rescue without endangering or interfering with its primary mission, it will but it's not required to do so. That's why I say people shouldn't depend on being rescued by the Navy.

This ship came to the port in my city a couple of times . It was beautiful !
It's horrible that sank and that captain took it out to sea in a Hurricane as bad as Sandy was.
Yes, tall ships are beautiful. It was very sad, especially with loss of life. :(

A friend of our's was a senior crewman on the USCG Gallatin that was involved in the search for the Bounty's crew.

but I don't share the same opinion as others in here who believe "oh that's dangerous! oh this is dangerous!" mentality. That means they're the one who believe hunting, shooting, camping, etc. are all too dangerous for kids.

The fact that I never had kid doesn't change the fact I will carry on same thing what my parents did for me.

yes but I did

right. I'm sure they were surprised by what happened. I thought it was really great that our Navy went all and above for them. We take care of each other.
