Ah, yes. Now I remember. It sank in the Gulf, didn't it?
Normally, the government doesn't bill people for rescues. (Maybe they should, in some cases.)
just food for thought. if they can afford a sailboat.... they can easily afford a satellite phone. few people would be stupid not to have one.Satellite phone. I don't know of too many people who actually own one of these, as they're not cheap. And as for paying Coast Guard and the Navy, good question. I dunno about that.
I agree, especially because the younger one had food poisoning prior to the trip. They could face legal troubles, too.
It did say that, but I wonder what it takes to get permission to travel around the world by water? Wouldn't they need passports and certain paperwork to do this?
All you need is a passport to enter foreign ports. The open seas are just that--open. They don't belong to any country.
Watch out for pirates, especially in the Indian Ocean.
what? legal troubles? lol obsessing with the law again?
that's like saying bringing a child with you on road trip or plane will get you in a legal trouble if a child got sick.
I find it interesting that child is require by law to sit in the back seat of a car in baby seat and strapped in but not in a sailboat that out in the middle of a deep ocean .
I'm not saying you're wrong but you might have more credibility after you have children of your own.I don't know what's with all these fuss about bringing a child to sailboat. It doesn't bother me at all. not a single bit.
Parents bring their children to ski at double black diamond.... teach guns... go hunting together... fly overseas together.... road trips in RV... etc. this is nothing comparable to families living in Africa out in the wild.
what's the big deal????? have we become overly sensitive scaredy cat and coddled in this modern country?

because a child can survive a car crash that way. what is a sailboat going to crash into? being strapped in a boat is exactly not what you would want to because you will go down with a boat after crashing.
