Well, Sunday/Monday I helped my daughter move into her new apartment ( Her first time being on her own ) she will be 21 soon but she is done with school and wanted to get her own place out of Gma/Gpa's house.
So My wife and I as well as the kids all helped her move ( I did the hauling in my truck) to save her some money on renting a truck.
Anyways we stayed awhile to visit at her new apartment and helped arrange things and all. Got home late about 11pm.
Monday I took my wife to work as I needed to haul a few more pieces of furniture for my daughter and wanted to do it in the morning before it got hot, stayed in the city all day as I had to pick my wife up from work as well.
Now for monday, the stepdaughter is at summer school, the step son sleeps all day as he stays up all night gaming... My wife and I get home and there are tire tracks all the way up to the house, a planter knocked over and grass is torn up where someone got in a hurry to leave, so i dont know if it was an attempted burgulary or what? but the stepson was home. Didnt find anything missing or messed with so either the dogs barking scared them off or a passing car??? Well i made a police report and the police say there has been a string of break ins lately, they are looking for 2 specific vehicles. So my wife and I have talked about a security system before and now we are going to have it installed, I am also going to hide a trail cam to catch anything and everything that moves on my property.
My wife and I are also going for CCW as I told her I am home all day and I dont hear the door ( perfect opportunities for robbers ) so if someone breaks in, I wont hessitate to take them down. There is no tresspassing signs on my property so there is no reason for anyone to be here except who we invite over or know thats coming over.

Yes indeed, especially that no one knew we were gone (and our 15 yo stepson was home)

That's scary, my family has never burglarized.

My parents house have been robbed several times. I used to own the house behind them, they left christmas eve to buy some last minute gifts that morning and came back to everything gone, all the christmas gifts. Didnt take my dads guns but did take all the gifts. they broke into a back window and came out the door, I had a line sight veiw of their house but never seen anything as I parked in my garage and work in the garage, was in and out all day and never seen anyone out there. Sad, that was the first year without a christmas for the kids.
We caught one group of people trying to get in, and another who did get in while we were home, My dad had his gun and I was behind the door when they came in from the basement, I had fun beating the hell out of him while we waited for the police....lol
I think he was close to committing suicide, but I let him live...lmao.

Oh wow, I feel bad for kids who have no Christmas. :(

I think about why my family never burglarized because of dogs in backyard, keep locked all time and live in rural area, but 2 or 3 houses in our subdivisions got burglarized because they forgot to lock the door or don't bother to lock the door.

Traditionally, in rural area and small town, people usually left door unlocked.

Yeah out here people leave doors unlocked, and I cant understand why. Those city creeps are on their way out here as they know that now. Hey lets go rob those county and country peeps, they leave their doors open/unlocked. But then again these county and country peeps have guns.... and arrows...lol

Also, income in rural area is much lower so robbers prefer city or suburb that where they can get most value.

Yes, that's true about overwhelmingly majority of rural residents are armed too, even they have dogs too.

Not true, alot of the folks work in the cities and live in the county. its just those that are WAYYYYYYY out in the boonies who strictly stay with farm life are lower, those who have a lesser commute to the city still bring home the bacon. My wife and I both and she still does, work in the city for a very well known company ( only if she could land an opening to the branch out here, she would only need to travel a few blocks) but senority decides that fate.

This is why I can't understand people leaving their curtains wide open with Xmas tree all lite up and gifts under the tree then they go for the evening.
It's an open invitation to robbers come help yourselves .
That is horrible you're dealing with trespassing after all that crap you went
through with the tenants parking in the wrong place. Do you think that they could had done this too?

its possible, but the police say there has been a string of robberies involving 2 specific vehicles, so Im keeping an eye out.
I am going to set up a trail cam and also a motion signaler, to alert me when anyone is on the property.

We don't put our presents under the tree until Christmas Eve. Just my personal preference. I don't like displaying merchandise--it feels like bragging.

Thats what my parents do, they actually put them under the tree and then thought of something they needed and ran out for less than an hour, returned and everything was gone. They usually have all the blinds closed when not home, and just this day either someone was watching for people to leave or just randomly hit homes...

But once people see the Christmas tree all lite up they know there a lot of gifts somewhere in the house. This happen to some people when I was younger , they went out for a party and their house was cleaned out. I read that if got got a new TV or any other item that came in a big box it best to break the box up and put it in a trash bag . If you put the box on the sidewalk robbers will know you have a nice TV .

That is so true . Robbers know people will be running in out of their homes during the a holiday , going to parties or just dropping off a gift next door.
They do at the parking lots at beaches too. I went to a beach with a friend and we left our pocketbooks in back seat and covered them up with some blankets. We got back to the car someone had tried to break into my friend car . They tried open the open with some tool and I guess could get the door open or someone scared them away. The robber was watching people to see who left their pocketbooks or wallets in their car. We where lucky and nothing got stolen the car was damage .

In our neighborhood, if you put a box on the curb it won't get picked up by the trash truck. It either has to be completely in the trash can or broken down to fit in the recycling bin.

It's possible anyone could have their house broken into during Christmas. Most of the houses in our neighborhood have visible trees in their houses, so anyone could be a target, though I can't recall any that have been broken into for that reason.

The only house break-ins we experienced were at our previous house, over 25 years ago. We were broken into, twice, during the summer. The first time, nothing was disturbed except for the window they broke to get in, and the muddy footprints they left behind. The second time was when we were out of town. They made a mess of the house searching for stuff but stole only my engraved sterling silver baby set (rattle, spoon and fork) and one of my wristwatches that was just costume jewelry (not valuable). My baby set was very sentimentally valuable to me.

Boxes have to be broken up here too but we a condo owner who rent out her unit and she is a horrible landlord . She does not tell her tenants the condo rules or how to throw the cash out or about how we have move our cars during the winter . I had to tell her tenants the rules this the landlord that rented out to the idiot that kept dropping his cig butts on my deck and onto the mulch.
