Now that being said...

I surprised no one brought out the trump card:

Printers.

You don't want to see why I didn't bring that up. My handwriting is worse than a chicken's feet.

What was the original topic? I forgot about 70 posts back!

socialism. the past several posts about computers/Internet is pertinent and relevant to this thread because I asked a hypothetical question about making it a mandatory that every household must have internet and computer.

and the fight began....

TITS UP!

Run!!!!!!!!!!!

I know some liberals who do believe that everyone should have a high speed internet at home. In fact, they are so desperate for a law that would make ISP provide high speed for people out in the country/rural. Like how they did with electricity.

They say they didn't want to drive 15 miles to the library or work for high speed (btw, they are able to get dial up). I told them that when I was growing up, we didn't have computers, had to plan a day for just to go out town. Which was every Saturday. We go out to the library to get books, get groceries, etc. And that they can't always get what they want unless they want to bring groceries store closer to their home as well. Then it would be good-bye country, hello city.

I can't remember the last time I owned a printer. :laugh2:

I always printed off papers for school at school at the last conceivable moment that is, which most of the time was right before class.

Anyone else do this?

No. I do all my printing at home.

The college students where I work have to pay for their printed copies if they use the school printers. It's risky to wait until last minute because the printers might be down, or out of paper or toner, or there might be a long line ahead, etc.

I always had more luck printing off papers at school cause the low toner/no paper issues tended to happen to me more at home. At school there was always more than one printer so if one was down I could try another.

How much do they have to pay?

the "computer fee" varies among college. It's in all students' tuition bills. But every school is different. the fee can be up to $300. Each student is allocated with either unlimited # of papers allowed to print or up to 200 pages per semester. Some schools - you have to pay per paper.. probably 5-15 cents per page.

I'm not sure how much it is per page. They buy "debit" cards at the college book store and use those to pay for copies. They swipe the cards at the printer and it deducts the fee from the card.

Reba, this does not apply to you.

But... ya guys know, in the disability labs - if your school has one - free printing.

My school didn't have free printers in the study carrel but they let me photocopy and print for free to enlarge the print. Just took talking to the disability office and they were more than happy to accommodate me. :)

lol yup. copy machine too but my college is very very very large... 4 big campuses together so walking to disability office isn't convenient for me when I'm in other campus

Psst...

Jill B is laughing now because she's learning more about her course's material... while Jill A is busy browsing AllDeaf debating with faceless people while having the academic database in a separate window in the background. :)

Good point, souggy!:laugh2:

Where I am, it is 5 cents for a black and white copy per page, or 10 cents for color.

You can also bring in your own paper if you need something special done, and they won't charge you.

Need a golf cart???

I know it doesn't apply to me but it does apply to the students for whom I interpret. They, like all the other students at the college, have to buy the printer "debit" card if they want to make copies at school. There is no "disability lab."
