It is time to stop our society's acceptance of degrading and belittling women! I'm sick of it...and why have we women become so immune and numb to the fact that we are treated like second-class citizens?

Look at the media- movies, magazines...what-have-yous. They say "sex sells." That's BS. If sex sells, then there would be more of women AND men. But what sells is degrading the bodies and spirits of women.

Directors like Eli Roth deserves to rot in hell.

I was watching the film "Hostel." And these college guys were making vulgar comments about women. I was offended...and the dude next to me says, "well, that's how college guys act."

Excuse me, but that does not make it okay. And I know for a fact that not all guys do that kind of degradation. I was offended because here I am, a woman, and it is now deemed "okay" for me to accept that those remarks are typical.

I am a woman. I am human. I am not some sex object where men can post votes on whether or not they would "hit it" and make vulgar comments about my body, etc.

Where does it end? Why do women allow this to happen?

Couldn't agree with you more, deafbajagal. And as long a people pay money to view movies that degrade women, we, by that action alone, sanction such attitudes and treatment. Not speaking out when such treatment is witnessed means that we all, through our silence, communicate the message that it is acceptable.

Did you not see Hostel 2?

Men were mistreated, abused, violated, belittled and "college girls had their ways" with the men as well.

It is how the entertainment business does with both genders.

Yeah, I agree with bucket here.. Did you see Hostel II yet? It will show equal equivalence with the men.

However, that is not the film's intention for you to see torture and the likes.
I remember checking into producer's motives for the film after seeing them.

The film was mainly made to replicate "reality's portrayal", not to urge people to do it or something like that.

Here's a quote directly from him when he was faced to reply with why did he do it, and gave it a negative look of the country he began filming it in:

Defending himself, Roth said that the film was not meant to be offensive, arguing that

"Americans do not even know that this country exists. My film is not a geographical work but aims to show Americans' ignorance of the world around them."[5]

Hostel appears to be misplaced, both culturally and geographically. Roth said he did this intentionally, meaning to show American stereotypes of Eastern Europe, while the Americans in the film are portrayed accurately.[9]

All in all, I know where you are coming from in the whole stance on women in general.
It's just Hostel shouldn't be taken as the standing ground. Later on people may start exhibiting skepticism in your initial findings.

In regards to women getting treated like that - the women accepted the money in order to have themselves portrayed like that in the film. There will be some blunders from the women's side, and I am sure that you will realize that.

I fail to see the correlation that these women in the film, may also support women's right movements. But by allowing themselves to be seen that way in the movie, they appetized the public in doing so.

In regards to the purpose of this topic:
In history women have always been treated as a second rate to males. Ever since the bible as far back as I can remember, to the dark ages, new world age, ancient asia, all the way until late 1900's during the women's suffrage movement, they had always had the same misconceptions about them. Is it possible to just go out and refute with thousands of years of this with a vendetta?

*shrugs* it's how alot of men and how the world and how the cluture is...and so on.

Anyway, not all men are like that as I'm sure u know that. there are alot of men who would totally respect women all the way to the fullest as treating her as a queen and such while there would still be some other men who act like players getting nothing but sex when they arent even serious with love and relationships. Some men are mature while some are not mature.

As for college guys, it is not surprising from what your guy friend said saying "thats how alot of college guys act" well they are young people so of course they would appear immature and doing stupid things such as drugs, drinking and going around fucking people they arent even serious with. It's pretty common now these days thats how young people "act."

I do agree that women are not sex objects and such and should be treated equal and such...as I already do know that as well. I'm sorry to hear that you are frustrated about how some men are but remember there are always goin to be some "good" men and "bad" men so...*shrugs*

Btw, I did not see Hostel II and I'm not going to see it at all since I've heard of pretty bad reviews about this movie thou of course both men and women do get killed as being used as "toys" in this movie which was pretty sick and stupid. I only have the first one on dvd and I thought it was good, in some ways...since it's based on true events that taken place in Russia. Hostel 2 was just an attention whore that took too much to make it anything gross or scary from other Horror movies such as Saw which is totally lame.

I think the degrading of any group, gender, and etc needs to stop, period!

Hostel and Hostel 2 should be banned. I was utterly repulsed by it. :mad2:

Never seen either movies...repulsive how?

The sick <beep> sexually victimized/tortured women tied to chair in a very... disgusting, sick, twisted way and in the end - they're all dead. UGH UGH UGH. I spent many months trying to forget it.

Never seen either movies...repulsive how?

WARNING What I'm about to tell you will be very disturbing and graphic...

There was a scene where a man used a blowtorch on the asian woman who's tied to a chair screaming in pain as the main character ran to the door to find her and the man yelled at him to get out since he paid for that room and he shot him and try to release the girl but she got her eye VERY loose out of her eye socket from the swelling and burning of her eye so the guy had no choice but cut her eye off and white fluide came out of her eye as she was still screaming in pain and then set her lose and ran off like hell together...as they get to the train section, he spotted two men lookin for the guy who escaped the toture building then then they went the other way when they wont be seen, and the girl stopped and looked at the reflection of herself on the glass billboard, and he told her to come on and get in the train already, and she didnt listen to him. instead she was very depressed of what her face looks like now and she ran off the ground when the other train was coming and killed herself as blood spread on those people who were waiting for the train. the two men ran to see what happened and he quickly got inside the other train and hide himself in the bathroom with a knife taken out in case the men finds him in there til the train took off.

Pretty much fucked up eh?

I think that's enough for now lol sorry if I show too much, folks.

I dont think there will be Hostel part III coming anytime soon due to the reviews of Part II which was utter shit.

Then again...it's hollywood. I wont be suprised if part 3 is going to be in production. I dont think I will see that either.

All I'm gonna say in this thread is that Hostel was a decent movie for what it was....

And as for the "argument" this thread is based on...

Lets say Hostel isn't going to leave my collection of movies anytime soon *grin*

I've never seen the movie, just because I hate gore in general.

Lord of the rings is as hardcore as I get. LOL.

I agree!

We should ban Hostel!

We should also ban Hostel: Part II, Hostel: Part III, Turistas, Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Feast, Feast II: Sloppy Seconds, Feast 3: The Happy Finish, From Dusk Til Dawn, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter, Bordello of Blood, Zombie Strippers!, The Hills Have Eyes, The Hills Have Eyes II, The Hitcher, Vacancy, Vacancy 2: The First Cut, Wrong Turn, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End...

They're violent! They degrade women! They degrade men! They degrade sex! They're gory! They're just plain awful! They all should be banned! ;)

That's just so wrong!
This is an OUTRAGE.

:locked::locked::locked::locked: ban them all.

I wonder why we are talking about movies all of a sudden in general chatting instead of entertainment thread...lol

Because they've missed the point of my thread. Hostel was just an example...I was watching that movie which set off my pov that media in general degrades women (yes, men sometimes but mostly women) - and it's become acceptable and even glorified at times. And THAT's why I'm jumping up and down on my soap box ranting like some mad woman on acid.
