This didn't make the news

It's not as depressing to talk about something that happens halfway around the world to a government that has just as much ethnocentric expectations as us. It might have been an accident but we might be too ignorant to care unless it's suggested it would affect us.

I wonder how they (chinese) covered the Gulf Oil spill? And did they notice/care/worry about what would happen?

For us though... For example, you probably had people worried on the west coast about oily shrimp. For people like 50 miles from the gulf probably were more worried about it and then maybe the people who actually saw oiled shrimp or oil on their beaches weren't worried at all because thinking about it caused a perception of personal pain too great for them to handle, I.e. They actually changed their behavior and moved on.

I'm actually surprised that it was not made into a big deal over here. I don't know if it was due to "hush-hush" (which would confuse me, I would think mainstream media would jump all over this) or it is simply because the media doesn't really give a flying hoop about other countries.

Or maybe the media was too skared? Of wittle litttle Chiney? ;)

I was surprised because I didn't think of china as a huge "oil" producer. A lot of other import/exports but not oil. And the fact spills are more common than people might believe is why I didn't kick more stones around in regards to size of the Chinese spill.

I knew but didnt post it- what does that make me? Sighs. Stupid oil dependency/ignorance

It makes you exactly who you are..which from what I have read seems, clever and intellegent. You just think about the importance of making a statement I guess..before you do...I think that makes you an individual...smile..Peace

I'm probably that but at times I feel like that monkey from "futurama" :/. Not really sure what this intelligence is supposed to do but I know don't feel bliss

most of Chinese's oil refineries process light oil while Saudi refineries process heavy oil.

Except this one is a little different from Yiz's....Beo and neither did i, for that matter, didn't even know this, in fact, happened.

As much as I hate to admit it :)lol:) neither did I.

1) This happened a long time ago.
2) You've been buying seafood from China? Don't you like your seafood fresh?
Hell, I live in Alabama, and I don't like ocean seafood here because it's not fresh enough!!!

And that is one of the reasons I love Seattle and the East Coast. Fresh seafood. I don't think I've ever even seen Chinese seafood for sale in the States.

Exactly! Every time I go to Miami, I get either Cuban food or seafood. Huntsville is severely lacking those types of food (in either existence or quality).

I went to Seattle recently and I am pretty sure I had seafood EVERY DAY I stayed there.

Now I think about it, I have actually seen Chinese seafood for sale in the States, but they usually are in the dried form, such as dried shredded squid. Usually found in Chinese or Asian markets. Not sure if I want to try....

Ah, I didn't consider the dried stuff. I stay away from it. Tried the dried shrimp once, and it was sooooo salty, I couldn't handle it.

Same here. I had to explain to certain people why I had to doggybag my food to their homes, hah.

Yikes, although I rarely watch the TV news nor online news as well due to being on the run practically all the time and am usually too tired to bother with it by the end of the day. Nevertheless, it still was saddening to hear about the oil spill in China. Not reported on the news? That'd be strange due to the magnitude of the spill -- I hope China managed to get into damage control with the spill.
