Not common as you thought. The only revenue service magnetic Levitation high speed trains services are in China which runs from downtown to the airport at top speeds of 268 mph. They have test tracks in Germany and Japan currently. They are classified as monorail because it wraps around the track with one rail just like a normal rubber tired monorail does.
