What kind of HDD do they use?
You can use any. Laptop does work on the PS3 but it must be the same size. PS3 HDD are 2.5" . Almost most laptops have that. It can be any brands.
What kind of HDD do they use?
I have a 750GB External WD HDD, would it work with PS3 via USB connectivity (Otherwise Fireware or eSATA)?
No you cannot do it via USB, it must be internal, external can act as backup for gamesaves, pictures, music and such. and must be in the Fat32 format.
Fortunately, my HDD have Fat32 format, and it can act to save the games, so it should be good!
Here's for backing up:

I've used my 1GB memory stick for backing up all the games' data and then after I've upgraded my hard drive, I've transferred all the data back into the hard drive but still had to re-install the games to the hard drive again but at least the saves are still there.
And USB drive too. Not all model of PS3 support SD memory since it had been removed in newer model.
Yes, I saw the video, so I will see what I can find when I get the PS3, but if I get the 80GB, it should be sufficent for me for now, if I need more, I will just get a better HDD later. So the question remains, would it be worth my pennies to get one? I believe the answer is yes.
Oh? Well, I see a lot of 80GB models in my local area, Nathan. Remember, this is Australia -- Not United States of America.
