I often wonder what life was really like back during WWII here in the states. You hear of so many stories and many movies, but often they are inaccurate to the point that you don't get a feel for it.
I also wonder what the Renaissance would have been like. To go from uneducated Medieval times of war and plundering to a time of 'rebirth' of the arts, education, and important discoveries.
We must thank two men for this 'rebirth' or otherwise we would still be a bunch of illiterate peasants working for a Lord in Europe. Those two men would be Contstanine and Johann Gutenberg.
Constantine through his expansion across the Middle East and Europe didnt just murder and plunder. He allowed those he 'captured' to be educated by pushing for more teachers and libraries to be built so that these people may learn and not believe in just the myths handed down to them by word of mouth.
Without Johann Gutenberg, we would not have everyday things such as books and newspapers. Through his press, he was able to mass produce documents for the first time relatively cheaply. Of course, for many centuries only the wealthiest could afford a small private collection of books, but during this time, many people were taught to read using the Bible as it was the only book many families could afford, and in some families a Bible would be handed down for many generations, thus where we the idea of a 'Family Bible' where the family records were kept.
Through the work of these two men, more people were able to get an education, more and more people became literate and with that more discoveries were made.
