Were you/are you an active LEO as a deafie? (I honestly don't see myself in law enforcement as Im too jumpy and excitable in certain situations and lose my focus which could be disastrous).
I do know of several deaf nurses, but the work environment is different, your in a controlled hospital facility versus out in the field where the conditions change as often as your patients do. I thought about going into Nursing while I had my EMT certs but I lost my confidence in that when no one would consider hiring me as an EMT. Believe me when you've a lot of effort into something and it fails, you tend not to continue put much effort into that direction.
At least in education I can work around my deafness and feel confident about it not have a life or death situation on my hands. However I would be responsible for 20 or so students education in learning the English language, its grammar and mechanics. Plus, I could probably motivate a couple to take their writing skills to a higher level that could open doors for them.
I have the ability but I just don't have the time to sit down to write a full-novel these days, let alone read one!
