For some reason I'm in a mood to write some cheesy love song, lol. Too bad I can't carry a tune in a bucket if I tried to save me or otherwise Id try having a music career. Meh.

Oh yeah I got asked today if I would consider law enforcement as a career change from the poultry industry. I about fell out of my chair laughing so hard. I had to tell the guy I was deaf and that would NOT be good juju for any police department.

The guy said if I was deaf only in my left ear I could wear the microphone in my right ear. Only problem there is how the hell would I hear the person standing behind me with a gun to my ass while the dispatch was radioing to me that back-up isn't coming. LOL.

Besides Ive never heard of a deaf LEO, however I have heard of a deaf EMT. Sad thing is that it is difficult for the deaf to get into Civil Service as often it requires the use of all senses or you become a liability to your workmates and your muncipiality (or company if you work for a privately operated EMS service). Could you imagine the cost of malpractice insurance carried by a deaf EMT??

A new car to replace my decent car, haha. A new house -- that's it.

Yeah, I agree. And maybe a trip to Australia to visit my friends.

It can ridiculously high in comparison with what one's take home pay is and often they take it directly from your paycheck.

Here's the funny thing - the higher your certifications are or the more of them you have the higher your malpractice insurance becomes.

I know of one guy in Oklahoma that is currently EMT-P/CC/F EMT-P/CPAP/NCC EMT-P/RN/CC NREMT-P Basically what the alphabet soup amounts to is he is a Nationally Registered Paramedic that has pre-hospital certifications for Critical Care, Neonatal Critical Care, Airway, as well as RN cross trained in Critical Care and is also flight certified. Which means with all of this stuff he's the guy that jumps out of the helicopter when your'e an oh-shit case. Last I had heard he was nearing completion of a Ph.D in Nursing. This guy has been doing the EMS thing for about about 20 or so years.

With a billion dollars I would finish my education, buy myself a house and put back a portion of it to pay for my DDs college tution and use the rest wisely so that I would be financially stable for the rest of my life.

Deputy Susie is here and a deaf law enforcement officer. And HOHDougRN is a nurse. You could ask if his malpractice insurance is higher.

Curious... what would do with a billion dollars? All I want is a boat, a truck, and my house paid off. That's it.

i'd earn my ph.d, buy a new house equipped with a maid and hire my own driver who could take me wherever i wanted to go. i'd also have my guide dog tigger cloned.

Were you/are you an active LEO as a deafie? (I honestly don't see myself in law enforcement as Im too jumpy and excitable in certain situations and lose my focus which could be disastrous).

I do know of several deaf nurses, but the work environment is different, your in a controlled hospital facility versus out in the field where the conditions change as often as your patients do. I thought about going into Nursing while I had my EMT certs but I lost my confidence in that when no one would consider hiring me as an EMT. Believe me when you've a lot of effort into something and it fails, you tend not to continue put much effort into that direction.

At least in education I can work around my deafness and feel confident about it not have a life or death situation on my hands. However I would be responsible for 20 or so students education in learning the English language, its grammar and mechanics. Plus, I could probably motivate a couple to take their writing skills to a higher level that could open doors for them.

I have the ability but I just don't have the time to sit down to write a full-novel these days, let alone read one!
