The "DeafBlind" Definition

I don't have any percentages but I think a good chunk of deafblind people are born deaf and later become blind since Usher's is a main cause of deafblindness and presents itself as congenital deafness and blindness later on.

It depends what type of ushers you have. some are born HOH or fully hearing and loose both later on. It varies.

Sorry I actually did know that but should have mentioned it in my original post. :ty: dreama.

Until I joined AD, I looked at Helen Keller as a hero but the more I learned about her especially her views on deafness and the Deaf community, I no longer hold her on that pedestal.

While I find much to admire about Helen Keller, her views on them keeps me from considering her a hero.

You may now apologize and state what you feel the definition of deafblindness is, like every other rational person who posted in this thread.

I -may- apologize? You've sure got some nerve. You're the one who repeatedly quoted "deafblindness" and implied that if someone "just" is hard of hearing or "just" has bad vision they cannot be deafblind. You -had- a definition of deafblind all set up in your head and it was centered around that disgusting woman.

I -did- define deafblind for you, but apparently, despite the fact that -I'm- the blind one -you- couldn't read my post.

Yup, I'm ready to hear your apology anytime.

The quotation marks meant nothing insulting. Also, I did not "repeatedly" quote it... I did it twice. I don't fully understand how quotation marks mean that I was saying something derogatory, I'm sorry, but I don't.

I didn't imply anything. As stated previously, I was not knowledgable about the subject which is why I was asking how deaf and how blind one was before they proclaimed themselves as deafblind.

I'm sorry if you feel the way you do, but I did not intend any harm. I asked a question. Nothing in my original posting was supposed to be taken offensively. I have explained before, I did not know anything about deafblindness... such is why I ASKED. :)

You're far too defensive, expecting everyone to have a mean intention. That's not me by any means.

Also... I told you before... I was using Helen Keller as a comparison for people to explain to me the definition of deafblindness. I don't know about Helen Keller the way you know about her. Frankly, you took everything way too far.

Now I realize I am wasting my breath, because I know you are going to come right back and say how I intended this and that, when you really don't know my intentions since you are not me.

Note to mods:

Please close this thread.
I got all the information I need from a lot of user in this thread that discussed the subject rationally. :)
