What do you have for Thanksgiving dinner? The main dish--turkey, ham, turducken or something else? What side dish must you absolutely serve with the main dish?

Can you tell that I'm thinking about the Thanksgiving menu? Look forward to your ideas!

P.S. If you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, you can share your favorite holiday menu.

Mom always did this every year for Thanksgiving..

A turkey (or roasted chicken if she doesn't have time for turkey)
Pierogi
Cabbage rolls
Cream gravy
Fruit fritters (or an apple crumble)
Biscuits

Forgot what else she used to serve...

Cabbage rolls are usually everyone's favourites...

Debbie’s Sweet Potato Casserole
INGREDIENTS
3 c mashed sweet potatoes (2 cans)
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
½ c margarine
1/3 c milk

topping:
1 c brown sugar
1 c chopped pecans
1/3 c flour
1/3 c margarine
DIRECTIONS
Mix ingredients with mashed potatoes. Put in greased casserole dish. Mix topping and crumble on top of potato mixture. Bake 25-35 min. at 350 degrees. Serves 8-10

Randy’s Cheeseball
INGREDIENTS
2 – 8 oz. pkg cream cheese
sm bunch of green onions
1 jar dried chipped beef
½ sm can crushed pineapple
dash Worcestershire sauce
DIRECTIONS
Mix together and chill. Roll in chopped pecans or sliced almonds. Serve with assorted crackers.
Mama's Corn Bread Dressing
2 quarts cold, crumbled corn bread (packaged mix can be used)
3 slices loaf bread or cold biscuits
2 cups chopped clerey
1 cup chopped onion
2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
1 tablespoon sugar (if packaged mix is not used for corn bread)
2 cups stock from turkey
1 10 3/4-ounce can chicken broth
4 eggs, well beaten

Mix all ingredients well. Spoon into a greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or just until set. Do not overcook.

YIELD: ABOUT 3 QUARTS
Wonderful Pecan Pie
3 whole eggs (slightly beaten)
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup pecan halves

Beat eggs slightly. Add syrup, sugar, pecan halves, vanilla and salt. Line 9-inch pie pan with pastry and pour in filling. Put on lower shelf of 450 degree oven and bake 15 minutes. Turn heat down to 300 degrees and bake for 40 minutes more. When heat is turned down at end of 5 minute period place a large pan of cold water in oven on shelf just above pie for the remaining 40 minute period. A cookie sheet with 1-0inch sides is ideal for this purpose.
This enables the filling to cook thoroughly but prevents the crust from getting an unsightly brown.
And of course there must be that god-awful green bean casserole with the canned greenbeans mixed with canned cream of mushroom soup and covered with french fried onions.
And the cranberry sauce....

Okay, I'm ready to eat now!

The one item I must have , I don't make. I need a Chocolate French Silk Pie from Baker's Square of Village Inn.

YUMMMMMMMM I used to get French Silk Pies from this place in Dallas, but they went out of business :( I never have gotten the recipe just right on this one either. Maybe Marie Callenders has this...hmmmmm

Think so. They called it Chocolate Satin pie?

Love turkey! Here's a great vid on how turkeys are killed....the old fashioned way.

When my teacher at UL asked us to make a film about : "How to do something" I decided to make a film about my dad butchering a turkey. When I went to show it in class, I learned that everyone else showed films of changing bicycle tires or cooking an omelet. Boy were they shocked to see this!

So far we know we will have just the turkey....

Not sure what else since we will be going over at friend's house to enjoy the feats.

Probably baby red potatoes or mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole (that is the one I refused to eat! YUCK), rolls, maybe broccoli with cheese, candied corn (so good!), desserts such as pumpkin and maybe apple crumble or something...not sure what else it'll be served.

Here is the link for candied corn that I saw on Food Network.

Candied Corn

For our Thanksgiving dinner we had turkey, the stuffings, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberries... hmmm... I honestly can't really remember everything. I'm going by what we usually have.

cranberry sauce is a must for me. I wouldn't consider this thanksgiving dinner without cranberry sauce. ;)

Good news! I went to the grocery store to buy a ham. They had a deal that if you buy a ham, you get a 12 pound turkey free. So, now I have my turkey in the freezer. Helping the budget is good, too.

I freaking love that stuff! I think my mom makes ours with frozen green beens, but all I care about for thanksgiving dinner is that crap, dinner rolls, stuffing, and gravy. Everything else could not be there and I'd still be happy.

We bought a turkey for 39 cents per pound. That should be braggable.
