Texting while driving video (It may be too graphic)

There is NO EXCUSE to text while driving. NONE! Not even for a "few seconds". Why? Going at 60 mph which means you travel 88 ft/s and that for 4 seconds of not watching the road while texting means you have driven the length of a football field without looking. At lot can happen in a mere 4 seconds.

Anybody who text while driving is a complete idiot and a moron risking not only their own life but others as well. I have no tolerance for these people. They are in the same class as drunk drivers. Period.
yep
and
even a 25 mph impact can be deadly to a pedestrian or bicyclist

Now, not only do drivers, especially bikers, have to worry about drunk drivers but drivers who text while driving. It should be this. 1st offense texting while driving. You get your phone confiscated. That means you go out and buy another phone.
they should loose the driver license for at least 6 months

Sorry but it is not that simple. Why should inocent people be at risk because some idiot chooses to text while driving?

Not everyone are same when they are texting, I'm just texting so careful and pay attention at same time, I know it's my own risk, unlike teen drivers who made texting in every minutes and don't pay attention to road.

I'm not going change my mind after read all of post and some people has no idea about what they are talking about texting situation.

clunk clunk thump. now I'm off to work.... hopefully I won't get hit by a distracted driver :-o

I'm working on installing camera on my motorcycle cuz I would like you guys to see what kind of shit I have to deal with when commuting to NYC. My biggest problem is taxi drivers. Most of them try to hit me on purpose. I don't know why. Maybe I should slap INS logo on my bike and maybe that will change their road rage behavior :hmm:

(for those who doesn't get it about INS logo - majority of taxi drivers are people with questionable immigration status)

No excuse. Anybody who text while driving deserve to have their phones confiscated. I don't give a whit about the ability to drive or their "driving skill."

Texting while driving = drunk driving. No difference. Both situations you become impaired and not pay attention to the road. Your reaction time also gets reduced.

that's fine. However - if you DID crash, the police will investigate and check your phone record. If they found that you txt'ed while driving, they can hold you criminally-liable for it depending on the accident. It can lead to jail time.

You are missing the point. It is NOT JUST YOUR OWN RISK. You are risking the safety of everyone around you including pedestrians and other drivers when you choose to text while you drive. With all due respect you are a fool if you continue to risk the lives of others because you choose to text while you drive. I only hope for the sake of others that you do not hurt or kill anyone. It only takes a split second for something to happen and you are disillusioned if you don't think it can happen to you. Imagine how you would feel if you choose to text while you drive and end up killing or badly hurting someone else. Do you think it is worth it? How would you feel? Do you honestly think it can't happen to you because you think you are careful?

Texting poses serious, sometimes fatal distractions to all drivers, but particularly teenagers. According to the Centers for Disease Control, auto accidents are the leading cause of death for people between 16 and 20, killing more than 5000 annually. Increasingly, drivers are texting on their phones and this is placing others at risk. Recent studies show that text messaging is a growing cause of auto accidents in the United States. Motorists who text message have been found to be more distracted and more likely to be involved in an accident.

A new study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that when drivers engaged in texting while driving, their risk of an accident was 23 times greater than when not texting. This study showed that texting is much more dangerous than other driving distractions. The study also demonstrated that drivers spent almost five seconds looking at their cell phones while texting and driving.

Don't text while driving. That includes sending text, reading text messages or texting.

Read my first post and I said just rarely texting, it means very very few time in one month or none in few month, usually are emergencies or families, all of my texting were during highway when there's few cars on road and they are really far in distance. I live in state that don't populate alot and I know it's dangerous but I rather to be careful when what's goes on, also I don't texting on city street, rush hour or road with many cars.

I'm not going let to hurt other people and I do know better when happens to others and use common sense when texting, it's very rare.

Doesn't matter. Texting while driving = irresponsible driving. Not only irresponsible but doing so risk your own life and the lives of others on the road.

Texting while driving = drunk driving = immature drivers.

Pull over if you have to text. Or if you cannot. Turn off your phone so as not to be distracted. Please, none of the "emergency" bs stuff.

It doesn't matter how little or if YOU feel it's safe. The fact is that you are risking yor own safety along with everyone elses safety that is on the road or near you. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but is'nt it illegal to text while driving?
