Texting/walking just as dangerous as texting/driving

I call bunk on this.
Fact is. Walking while texting certainly can hurt you. The difference here is one of magnitude.
Doing it while operating a vehicle is obviously far more dangerous then doing it while walking.
Or is drunk walking just as dangerous as drunk driving?
Maybe we need more laws to forbid people to walk and text.
Nuts

Up to you if you want to do that-- I can relate to how dangerous it can get. I was once walking to a local store, and was texting with family about travel details, and lost track of where I was going, and nearly got hit by a car. Since then, I pay far more attention now than I did before. Heck, I don't even bring my phone out most of the time unless I am in a store or somewhere I am getting a bite to eat, and these are safe places well away from intersections, at least where I live.

Maybe significantly dangerous for you, the person doing the walking. So yeah, you could walk off a cliff while texting and die. But if you look at the damage you might inflict on others then the difference is off the scale. Think of the difference between walking into someone at 3mph with your (I'm guessing) 160-240 pound body made of bone and smooshy flesh, and compare that with hitting them with a 4,000 pound car made of hard metal, going 35-60 mph.

I feel fairly certain that you'll never inadvertently kill anyone by texting while walking. But while driving? It could easily happen.

It doesn't matter if on text messaging or social media; anything is possible, up to and including death from a really bad accident, especially is one or more people weren't paying attention. Now, IL has a law that prohibits texting while driving, so that's a good start, but I rarely text while walking, unless it was seriously important. Otherwise, it can wait.

Who said anything about texting vs social media? That's not the point. My point is that you could easily inadvertently kill someone if you're driving and not paying attention to the task of driving. If you walk while not paying attention to where you're going, most likely the only person to get hurt will be you.

And that's important. If you do something stupid and die, well that sucks, but it was your actions and you're the only one who suffered the consequences. In a way it's kind of your business. But if you do something stupid and someone else dies, that's a whole different animal: you don't have the right to take or ruin their life.

Hold on a minute
Do you drive?

The OP.
Any one that can drive in my eyes would know instinctively and on a very primal level that doing anything in a motor vehicle that will distract you is far more dangerous then doing the same thing while on foot
It's absurd this is even an argument

Second that.

Agreed. OP doesn't drive so that explains it.

I'm trying to debate which is more dangerous--texting while riding bike or texting while driving?

If anyone is going to text while being on the move, then have to be REALLY, REALLY be paying attention, you know.

In bold, I agree with you.

I'm not concerned about pedestrians texting while walking because they don't cause any mess or huge liability but texting while driving could cause accident, kill someone, or could be pile up with different cars, so cars are far dangerous than walking with shoe.

Dereck Is that really a debate?
Texting while operating a motor vehicle is more dangerous then doing it on a. Bicycle
Care to hazard a guess why?

Yes, agreed - no question. :D

Mangareader is talking about the OP.

What next? Someone would say that cooking in microwave is dangerous than grilling.
