Texting/walking just as dangerous as texting/driving

Really? Do we really need a law that says we can't walk and text at the same time.... I hope not.

I'm trying to debate which is more dangerous--texting while riding bike or texting while driving?

If anyone is going to text while being on the move, then have to be REALLY, REALLY be paying attention, you know.

That's interesting. I think it would depend on the co-ordination of the cyclist. For me, texting while riding a bike would be a *really* bad idea ha!

Unless the person has extremely good balance/coordination/etc., I'd say the texting while cycling is more dangerous for the person with wheels, but texting while driving is still the most dangerous for everyone else.

It's possible to lose control of your car and damage the car but to be somewhat insulated by the frame of the vehicle, the bumper, etc. On a bike, if you wipe out, your body is completely vulnerable to the impact of the collision (or whatever it is that causes the fail) - it takes next to nothing to get thrown over the bars and break your neck (maybe you take your hand off the rear brake and something jumps out, so you end up braking with just the front: end over end yikes!) and less than that to go down sideways, break an arm or at least get some nasty road rash.

Not that bad things don't happen to people in cars - they do. But drivers don't have to balance themselves, they don't have to pay attention to which wheels they're braking with, and their physical bodies aren't right out there on the road with traffic.

Do you drive?

If you'd paid a little more attention to some of the threads around here, you'd know the answer to that already. I CANNOT DRIVE-- PERIOD.

I call bunk on this.
Fact is. Walking while texting certainly can hurt you. The difference here is one of magnitude.
Doing it while operating a vehicle is obviously far more dangerous then doing it while walking.
Or is drunk walking just as dangerous as drunk driving?
Maybe we need more laws to forbid people to walk and text.
Nuts

I knew a woman that was walking and checking out a good looking man at the same time and the woman tripped on a lose brick on the sidewalk and broke her arm. So you should be careful checking out a good looking person while walking. People do not follow the 'No texting ' while driving law so I really doubt they would follow one for walking . I am always seeing people texting and driving at the same time in my city.

It's not his job to stay up-to-date on everything you post here.

My son was riding his Bike to school, early AM...saw a "hottie"...and ran into a light pole....:giggle:...he was a little banged up...but survived...and I've chewed out more than one person for texting or using the phone while driving.....

you're the only person I've known that uses the word "bunk" (besides myself)....dunno if it's more common these days or not....

Up to you if you want to do that-- I can relate to how dangerous it can get. I was once walking to a local store, and was texting with family about travel details, and lost track of where I was going, and nearly got hit by a car.

I was just going to say...that happens a lot. In fact we had a story a little while back in Boston of someone walking along the street and texting and she walked right in the path of a car and didn't realize until she looked up. She died on impact because the driver, who was not charged, didn't have time to react. I think many people are dismissive of the dangers of texting when walking because they don't realize how easy it really is (and dangerous) to lose sight of where you're walking. It happens more times than you realize.

Why do you can't drive? Do you have Usher Syndrome? medical reason?

My comment is about worse than other. When ask about which is dangerous? texting while walking or texting while driving, so I said texting while driving is a lot worse, but texting while walking is still dangerous too.

No disagreement here. :D

First of all, I have Tourtte's Syndrome, the most severe kind there is, so that's one reason why.

Another reason why is because my nighttime meds are over 2,000 mg, and makes it downright dangerous for me to be even driving. I can't legally obtain a license in any state; just a state ID.

Oh wow, I don't know that so understandable about why you can't drive.

Also, I understand about you had a difficult or not confident with job due to lack of accommodation, just like you said dangerous.

I feel bad now because many of my posts are humorous.

Yes. These are just two of the reasons why I have daily struggles with life; the Tourtte's makes it hard to focus, and the medication knocks me out for a LONG time-- it can be 12 hours or more. Just last Saturday I was asleep for nearly 16 or 17 hours, and I'd never slept that long before-- it was a first, but I felt really good, though. However, I still struggle, and now that you understand why I get frustrated easily, I can only educate a little at a time.

What next? Someone would say that cooking in microwave is dangerous than grilling.

Eating can be dangerous too , you could choke on your food. We might at all stop living if we'll have to worry about everything we do . I use my microwave stove all the time.

Please forgive Foxrac ... he skims stuff fast so even if he read it he didn't read it and he has a really severe case of CRS in his old age ...

Can't

S**t

:D

Plus if he forgets his morning geritol and wheaties he can be quite a grouch ;)

I admit I don't know much about the different levels of Tourette's. I do know one young man at our church who has Tourette's Syndrome. He drives, has a college degree, travels, sings, teaches, is married, and runs a national sports blog. Maybe his is less severe than what you have.

Are you sure that you were asleep all that time? It seems that you post here more frequently than that. You aren't posting in your sleep, are you?
