Since you all watch Super Bowl Commercials, how do you all rank?

I'll say... I give an F. I use Verizon Fios and most of the CC fall behind, not in sync with whatever they are saying.

Some have no CC at all. Some started in the middle of the commercial.. or sometime one letter show up at the very end of the commercial...

Sigh...

blame Verizon for that.

blame Verizon for that.

I could be, but when I spoke with friend of mine who is Verizon Engineer where they work in "DVR" developement dept and he mentioned to me before about one particular STB with DVR model..have lot of issues with CC. If I get the kind without the DVR, everything will work fine.

So, that is the whole point on this tread, of how everyone else percieve it, in their opinions.

UNLESS previously scripted, I'd venture to say all CC's are lousy!

The Super Bowl XLV caption commercial count survey gives NAD and NVRC a great opportunity to learn about problems with transmission of television captions for the Super Bowl or the commercials and promotions. Please participate in the NAD and NVRC captioning count survey to help track these potential problems.

I don't know about the Superbowl and the ads, but didn't you find the captioning on Glee to be a tad delayed? Around half a second to a second delay. It aired right after the Superbowl game.

many are like that.

I use OTA antenna and CC in commercials was not only bad but many commercials didn't even have CC!!!! I would also grade it a big fat "F".

*** A couple of commercials that had only music symbols are included in captions (Anybody disagreed with music symbols under captions? Please explain why – I’m curious).
There are few ones that provided both captions and non-captions for instance Doritos had 3 commercials but two with captioned and one wasn’t.
As for locals – still no captioned on ALL local ones in state of Washington. Let’s see if there will be more than 82% captioned next year, that is if there is no strike!
Reminder: This is not 100% accurate, since it might vary in some areas.

You were same problem as this link???

I did. In fact, FOX's closed captioning have been delayed ever since Super Bowl Sunday. House, Glee, Raising Hope ... All extremely difficult to watch with the caption delay.

I e-mailed my local FOX affiliate but received no response, of course. :(

That's a shame. Mine was Fox 29 in Buffalo.

I also saw delay from House episode using OTA antenna. It does not sound like a local station issue, more like nationwide issue. It was not fun.

I got several TV, all different brands. Tell you this..... this is hardware based issue. Not all TV shows captions, some TV shows clearly caption while other TV on same channel has issues with Caption. Yes, I had to take one TV back because of this. Vizio SUCKS with captions! They don't run properly.

Anyone with Samsung have any issue? So far, I haven't had any issue with Samsung.

Not only TV itself that may have problem but STB can effect it too. I have Samsung 52" (I think?) DLP and before I got DVR, I have no problem at all.

Interesting. I guess somebody need to bring this to Fox's attention.

CC delay appears to continue on FOX. I watched Human Target last night and CC is still delayed.

Interesting. I guess somebody need to bring this to Fox's attention.

I contacted FOX with a link to this thread. The Director of Broadcast Operations replied to me looking for more info but currently considers this a local issue.

The e-mail is basically verbatim from a reply I got from him regarding FOX captioning in 2006, so maybe all caption issues are local until proven otherwise.

Since his e-mail is a work one, I'll risk posting it here: shawn.ulibarri@fox.com. If you guys can send him an e-mail, too, maybe this will get some attention.

The subject I used was "FOX captioning out of sync since Sunday‏".

He asked for these details:

Your City:
Your Fox Station:
Your Zip Code:
Actual Channel Tuned to:
Are You Watching in High Definition?:
Cable or Satellite or Antenna?:
--If cable or satellite, your provider?
Type of TV (Standard 4x3 or 16x9 HD):
Type of Set Top Box Used (Name and Model if available):

Anecdote: A local news reporter at FOX did a story on the young lady that performed the interpreting at the Super Bowl. I e-mailed this reporter for some sympathetic attention on the captioning, and she never replied, either.
