Student got arrested in a major drug bust at Gallaudet University

buy a car, you're risking lives too, buy a gun too that, buy a condom (it migth break and you'd still catch AIDS) buy a donuts you'd get fat and die of heart attacks...

In DC for a first offense involving MJ possession and distribution/intent to distribute (under 1/2 pound) can get probation and counseling without guilty plea being entered. Otherwise it's up to 6 months and/or up to $1000 fine. If someone is over 21 distributing to minors, though, penalties double.

I dont care if she was broke and trying to surive, selling drugs is stupid. There are other ways to make money. My ex hubby left me while I was in grad school at Gallaudet so I lost a huge chunk of the income that was supporting me but I found ways to make it through. If she loses her chance to graduate, too bad. 700 pills? Being addicted to pills is a horrible way to live and she was contributing to putting people's lives in danger.

The story's still breaking but it's my understanding that the 700 pills is inaccurate. She had a little over 100 and she has a prescription for them. She has some health issues needed that medication.

The unemployment rate is high and many college graduates can't find meaningful employment, so they look other ways to make money, even if it is illegal.

Well, there are really many, many drug addicts over the nation and it isn't DC problem, so we have problem with breaking drug laws and war on drugs don't have any effective.

That's more society problem.

Addict? If she was addict so she won't making thorough the college, that's not make any sense.

Good luck with overcrowding prison and I'm not going to spend my taxes to prison for drug offenses.

She was dealing drugs. No sympathy.

BTW, when I was researching the other issue I saw many indications that drugs are a widespread problem on campus. Not sure if that is true.

Correct. Molly's no addict. She really is a great person. She effed up though. She's going to face the consequences. She'll forever be marred a felon. Nothing will change that.

It doesn't mean that I agree with it. I can't imagine what she's done that's so criminal? Smoke pot? Sell pot? Molly's going to be punished. Severely. That won't change. Regardless, the laws are inconsistent and and powered by ignorance. Legalize, tax, and regulate the hell out of it.

I have zero interest in funding their prison stay whatsoever.

No, more states is now charging as misdemeanor for selling weeds, felony kicks in at specific amount of weeds sold like here in NY is 8 ounce or more as felony, less is not. Want doing bigger weeds business without felony?, try Louisiana! So, most? Not anymore, now looks like less than half of the states. Times has changed!

But since Gally is in DC and is funded mostly federal so federal law applies and FYI, Federal drug law is most strict of all and yes she will get felony on record. If she is in Louisiana, it won't matter much.

Wait, just check marijuana laws, she might not get felony record after all.

Oh, that's interesting.

I found the information about penalties for marijuana.
LegalJoint: District of Columbia Marijuana Law

"What doctor" would prescribe "over a 100 pills" to a patient?.....Perhaps she did have a prescription for them...but feel she was not taking them...just selling them....

Yea, it is a problem in society with people selling drugs to people who become so addicted to them that they destroy their own lives. She was so close to graduation...what the hell was she thinking?

Yup, there are some possible options to remove the felony or overturn the conviction, if she interested to fight but she will have a lot of legal costs if she gets felony off the record or overturn the conviction.

The drug dealing make a lot of money for sure, but more risk with all costly legal fees, including the court, trial, etc. Like you said, just let regulate the drug dealing to make legal and pay taxes, so that's fine with me.

Same here, not interested to fund the prison so they are reserved for violent crimes.

Lots of them. Heh. I don't know why she had over 100. She's going to have to answer for them and it seems that she will be able to. She wasn't selling them and she hasn't been charged with that. She has only one charge right now... felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. That's it.

The lacking of education for drugs, are biggest problem for drug addictions. You know that life isn't easy and they realize that make money in legal matter is hard to meet ends. In business course, one student shared with us about it is more easier to set the drug dealing than opening the new business in legal matter, so it looks like government regulation on businesses need to change.

As for closer to graduation, I like to ask same question to her.

If we provide all adults to access the meaningful employment with a lot of support, so it will be good for our society, so less drug addictions. It means we should fix the problem.

but you do anyway, they tell you the rates of taxes AND they decide what to do with it, Not you.

Excuse me - I'm voter and I can persuade the politicians to not spend any budget to the broken prison system, also we could set the ballot to get voters to vote.

Call "not you" is mistake because the politicians are elected by voters, so voters make decision.

But... the funding for prison in Alabama is lowest priority due to state constitution as the education is highest priority.

no its not, its the stupid fucking musci videos, and movies and hypes about good times, that is well established in young people's culture, pressures of sex, is another, as does showing of superiority of handling cars, and being good at sports, and Looking good...all this creates an enormous pressure on what is "life is about"

I have no problems with drugs, i do however have a problems with gang mentality and unemployment which takes is roots hidden from way back , blame is on politics and business NOT 'education' sic. To me, thats is 'so' becuase they 'won' your brain to not think long and hard enough about 'drug issues' , ok you said 'society problem' let me tell you as a sociologist, you dont even know what that is.
what is society problem?? not just you, but alot of people do this 'borrowing words from 'experts' to become instant experts , its just silly. News and media did a good job of convincing people that they can become instant experts, - think about the Documentary genre- in films and TV, that is exactly why is so popular because people FEEL good about 'knowing something' that they CAN'T explain...(except for real-life experts , but then again their theories are always debatable - only with other experts...and when public try to invovled its often too late to get the right information BECAUSE government has ALREADY instructed these experts to release information AFTER the government have decided whats the new policy will be, (all the while gullible public squibble the meanings and interpretations of it, and more often then not, the media business loves it, its a sure money spinner, selling "news"
nothng is new about any of this which i outlined above...nothing at all, not one bit is 'new'.

I don't understand entire of your post and going to ignore it, anyway.

so...the lowest priority would mean more prisoners are more likely to break out and escape and rape your ass, like an elephant raping the back of the commuter bus with people swimming out of the windows in white goo, because the elephant CAME in the BUS!!!!, thats a bad picture right?
