GM THM 700r4 or 4L60E trannies are weak and often mechanical breakdowns. My Astro van's tranny went out of service in about 95k mileage on it. I overhauled and rebuilted w/ upgraded strong planetary/ sungear assemblies.
Now my van is at almost 170K mileage on it but it is sick right now. I better off with GM reman tranny soon.
Many auto trannies are failures very easy cuz they got poor oxidition ATF due to high tempurature and poor (neglect) maintenance.
Some European vehicles like MBZ or BMW, have lifetime trannies cuz they use synthetic ATF. Never change ATF or filters. Sometime they are problem w/ mechanical or electricals.
Manual trannies can be expensive job if you own a Porsche Caynne SUV. Big
money on clutch job. Subaru? of course cheap clutch job.

Holy shit! I was rebuilt the THM 700r4 before. The instructor told me that auto transmission almost never break. Only break by customer abuse and poor maintenance that's all I know.

You are right about poor oxidation and transmission never happy if it got over 250F (i think) Good thing My 2001 Subaru use synthetic ATF not just European. I believe GM can use synthetic ATF as they are 2005 or newer.

I use geniune Honda ATF for my car. :) I thought your car is a manual? I guess I was wrong.

My old 2000 subaru Impreza RS Silver was manual and it got flood from Chicago in seven years ago and very hard to find manual for Subaru RS between 1998-2001 (I hate design 2002-2003)

My 2001 Subaru RS white is auto and I hate it so much but I have to save up money to buy another Subaru with manual for future.

I found the picture from google but not WRX.

I know what you're talking about. :) I've seen 2001 Subaru Impreza RS with 2 doors before...yep they're very rare.

Agreed!

The 60mph at uphill is work so hard than 130mph for auto transmission.

yeah, I can't go fast uphill with my automatic car at 90 mph for a long period of time....it goes too high rpms because it only has 4 speeds and limited gear ratios, blah. My friend in his 2001 VW Passat with a manual zoomed away and I was far behind back, LOL. I didn't want to blow up my engine going 5000 rpm at 70 mph in 3rd gear.

Oop, Check my edit post for make little clear.

I believe DTC (Double transmission clutch) is better than auto transmission for uphill. DTC is "hybrid" from auto transmission and manual transmission.

Isn't that the one that Porsche have?

Thats old school, not true anymore, maybe 1mph better than auto. Before 1995 then it is true, after that, auto tranny had caught up.

I still prefer stick anyway.

The stick shift is better fuel efficient, inexpensive, quick, better control, and fun.

This is VERY True! Even with repair cost yes very cheap.

Auto transmission is very hard to break than manual transmission.

I believe manual transmission is cheaper than auto transmission for repair.

Almost 90% driver abuse to transmission to break down. Nothing to worry about transmission.

maybe they should be. If my van's tranny is out of service then I would add an auxiliary oil cooler, and 8 or 9 quarts of synthetic ATF, omitt OEM cooler (inside radiator) when get a new reman GM tranny from dealer. Cuz the ATF temp on an auxiliary cooler will reduce better than the OEM cooler. The cost for 9 quarts of synthetic ATF is about $120 dollars.

Use Dexon III or other ATF brand will cause Honda poor shifting quailty and also ruin friction clutches. We use Honda ATF to service Hondas. Did you know that to check ATF level on the dipstick is warmed up engine then shut engine off for few minutes then check ATF level that apply to all Hondas?
Ford manual transmissions (early Ranger or Mustang) use ATF. Some manual trannies use motor oil. Most manual trannies use gear oil.

Agreed!

The 60mph at uphill is work so hard than 130mph without uphill for auto transmission.

Plus low level ATF in tranny is in big trouble if the vehicle steep down or up hill
Engines too. Check fluid levels before hit the SF hilly streets. My Alfa Romero GTV on the SF hilly street? no problem cuz AR motor holds 8 quarts of oil in sump. No sweat. My car had never been on the SF before.

VW,BMW, Audi, Nissan (GTR) and some GM (rumor) does have DTC.
I dont know cuz I didnt read about the latest DTC or CVT cuz they are too complicate to me. I feel like I dont want to hear them cuz Im an emission specialist and will study them later.
