I went to the State Fair of Texas recently with my family. I took some pictures and thought I'd share them here. :)

big_tex_front.jpg

This is the star of the State Fair of Texas... Big Tex.

Big Tex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

big_tex_back.jpg

This is the back of Big Tex. :)

tower_building.jpg

This is the Tower Building located behind Big Tex. (You can see the building in the picture showing the front of Big Tex.) This building is where the food court is.

butter_egyptian_tomb.jpg

This is the Egyptian display made entirely of butter. The whole display is refrigerated to keep it from melting. This image shows the tomb.

butter_egyptian_wall.jpg

This image shows the wall of the Egyptian butter display.

bird_show.jpg

This is the bird show that I attended. They had various birds performing. One enjoyable act was where a bald eagle flew down from the top of Texas Star, flew around the stage, then landed on the host's arm. At the end, there was a small bird that would grab money out of people's hands and put the money in the donation box to collect money for the bird sanctuary. :)

This is just a picture of one of the beautiful water fountains throughout the state fair.

texas_star.jpg

Remember the bald eagle thing? This is the Texas Star that the bald eagle flew down from. There are 44 cars... 6 cars per color (with the exception of 2 cars being gold for special purposes). The bald eagle flew down from the gold car when it arrived to the top of the ferris wheel.

It's located in Dallas (a couple miles east of downtown Dallas). :)

Many states have their own state fairs and they're usually in a major city.

Oklahoma's state fair is in Oklahoma City. I've been there and it's also very nice. :)

wow... well thats new to me.. i knew about fairs and state fairs..but wasnt really "interested" but hmmm this seems like fun i should go one day :)
thank you!

Awesome! :thumb:

It looks like you had a great time at the State Fair.

I found it fascinating seeing the picture of the Egyptian display of butter. That part was cool. I can only imagine that it took quite a while for the people to carve the butter into hieroglyphics. I'm curious, Did the display note how many pounds of butter was incorporated for this? And how long did they carve it?

neat! but making butter! that is neat to see! i am sure it would take long time to be done!

yea it is at dallas.. i havent been there but did touch dallas ....

Texas has a better butter display than Iowa! We just had a butter cow and some butter Olympians.

Hmm... I don't think so. If they did, I overlooked it. I was with my family and they kept rushing through.

I might go again in a week or two with my friends. When I go, my friend will take better pictures and I'll research everything more. :)

One popular thing at many state fairs are the fried food booths.

They fry just about everything. They've got fried Snickers (candy bar), fried Twinkies, fried peanut butter, jelly, and banana sandwiches, chicken fried bacon, etc.

Great pictures Vampy, sounds like ya had a great time. :thumb:

It was interesting about the butter display.

Ah, you went? When?

ahhh that been long time ago!!! my last time was in 1996. I been there with friends from my school years... like 5 times so far. It was nice and cool... They kept changing the style and taste, I like that.

My resident in Dallas from 1981 to 2001, if you wondering...

Texas state fair looks cool.

Used to live in Ft. Worth and Denton briefly yet I didn't know that the State fair is only few miles within Dallas downtown... what a waste of opportunity for me to miss. :aw:
