lol. People trying to make themselves feel important. lol. Pathetic.
Whats really interesting is that you fail to mention why you were at bidding against kids at a storage unit, posts from hell. You fail to mention what car you bought. You fail to mention a lot of things. Instead you choose to tell us about how big a gambler you are, and how you beat a kid by 140 dollars. You talk about these items as though you a big time gambler, and you don't even know why. Your snap judgements tell us everything we need to know about you, posts from hell.
Did I say I go ahead and "bid exactly 300" and game was over? nope.
It went down like this. I was there to rent a unit. A small one, a 5x10 to be exact. There were a bunch of people coming in and out of the managers office. This was a bit unusual because I've rented storage units in the past - and the manger told me "today we're having an auction at 2:30." I was like cool. "How much do they usually go for?" was my question, he went "Never had one since I started here in July." I asked if we could go and see. He said yes.
At this time the auctioneer was in the office and asked me if I wanted any part of the auction. I was like... eh, maybe? He gave me the sign in sheet and rules. Pretty simple. This dude also said "I will write if you want." I said "nah, I'll watch." he said "cool."
I had NO idea what was going ot happen. I hear these things happen but... never been to one, so I had the curiosity. This is primarily because I LOVE winning things.
We walked down the facility. A good long walk.. to the back where all the big storage units are. I was telling myself "wow, big units."
We go up to this unit. 6 of us bidders, the manager, and the auctioneer. Auctioneer is a vocal guy blabbering all about whatever, I didn't care. Bid went back and forth between these five guys pretty quickly. I was watching, see the auctioneer saying "Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen.... Sixteen...." They all balked. I thought he was saying 1600 dollars. So I just was observing.. then the auctioneer said "what about you?" I said 1600??? He said noooo $160!.
I was like uh... Big unit.. fine and I nodded my head. He went back to this kid, a young guy, looks like a roofer. And quickly back to me "180" I said, nah.. 200. Back to the kid, abck to me 220? I said, 250. Back to the kid and back to me "270???" I said "300." This was my final and I had my wallet out to make sure i had enough for this and the bills I was going to pay for the day. Had to have cash up front. The kid saw the cash I had on hand and said Nah.
I signed in pretty much MCE for the most part. TWO FIVE ZERO... THREE ZERO ZERO... worked well.
They then opened the door. Boom.
For the record 4 of the bidders were in their 40s 50s. And these two "kids" seemed to be brothers.
The auctioneer was one of the most Deaf friendly stranger I've ever met as well. Amazing experience. He also gave me a list of future storage unit auctions and different auctions that he runs. I am DEFINITELY going to them.
Again -- Amazing experience.
