So, will the deaf culture be there?

Botte, can you provide a cite to back that up? There have been closures of Deaf Schools (especially in Canada) but there are still a lot of formal Dhh programs out there. (and it's hard to say what the reason is for their closing)

It does seem like there ARE some res schools that are actually THRIVING. In states with crappy mainstream sped programs, it usually turns out that the res /Deafschool is really good.Unfortunatly even if you scream that you have a lawyer, the mainstream schools in those states just parrot that they cannot provide this or that for whatever reason.
Um... In Canada? Why target Canada specifically? Based on that comment, I now know you know nothing about Deaf education. I had my suspicions for awhile, but that alone is telling. And as far as sources go, look at the articles miss-delectable posted.

Thanks.

I seriously hope that nobody here is hoping all deaf schools would close because they have so much to offer to deaf and hh children.

No one said anything like that.

What DOES need to happen is that Deaf schools need to change and adapt to the needs of TODAY'S deaf students. They need to meet their needs and then the enrollments will increase again. If the continue to care about their dogma and philosophy more than they do what the children need and are capable of, then they will end up closing because families will get their needs met somewhere else.

And yes, Deafdyke just showed everyone what many of use already suspected

Did anyone say that?

Did I say that anyone said that? This is about the end of Deaf culture thread so I was hoping nobody here wants to see all Deaf schools to close.

Since we are at the "we are doomed" It's also possible that hearing aids and cochlear implants would die out as well and there would be no cure... but only if the earth changes and technology is difficult to come by ... kinda like developing countries.

In 30 years, people will look at today's cochlear implants the way we look at slide rules, Cray supercomputers and old VAX computers. That's a good thing.

I don't know. That is why I asked if anyone did. Why were you asking about it?

Asking about what? I am sorry but I am a little confused. All I said was I hope nobody here wishes all deaf schools would close. All that talk about CIs, oralism and not needing ASL makes me wonder if there are people who would be happy to see the end of deaf schools.

Sorry Shel. In my last question, I was really just joking because it seemed like we were asking each other the same question over and over.

I didn't see anyone say they want the end of deaf schools.

Right, nobody says that but do they silently wish for it? Sometimes, I wonder about some people...not going to name names so I made that statement that I really hope that nobody is wishing for something like that.

I think everyone here is pretty upfront about their views.

Globalwarming.

Another doom and gloom: everyone passed a genetic gene of Implant rejection just like how more and more people are getting allergies, especially peanut allergies.

no one knows for sure what cause peanut allergy but more people are getting them.
