So my hearing aid broke...

The people who had Ci by AB. usually most of the residual hearing is gone due to the fact that they cut thru the nerves so will never restore the residual hearing ever again. That what the audiologist told me. I dont know about freedom and others. so not sure.

Good question as i am curious about Freedom n others. i guess i will create the thread about this.

I have Nucleus 22, that got in 1999 and won't damage my inner ear.

A friend hooked me up with her brand new Oticon hearing aid. I don't know if it's analog or digital, or what model it is. If I take a picture and post it here, think one of you can tell me what it is? lol

No need for posting the picture here. Just take a look at the lower part covering upper ear of the case of the hearing aid and you'll probably see the model name there. Good luck

I am going to ask the audiologist about this as she did told me once you get Ci. You will NEVER have residual hearing ever again. Thats why its a HUGE decision for anyone who consider getting CI.

Once you get Ci.. there's NO going back!!!!!!!! thats what i was told... hmm..

Smiley, Your info about CI and cutting nerves in 100% incorrect. I dont know if you misunderstood the Audi or what. But, the auditory nerves are necessary to use a CI the same as normal hearing or HA. The audi nerves are not touched in the surgery.
Residual hearing is "lost" due to the hole being drilled in the cochlea. The fluid inside the cochlea leaks out and you lose the hearing. There have been threads posted here recently saying that audis are now finding that some people with the Freedom CI are retaining some of their resdiual hearing. If I recall correctly, the reason for this has to do with the fluid inside the cochlea not draining out with the freedom?

Lucia do have ci.. she showed her own INCISION! jeez! that ought to prove that she does have one! jeez!

you know what? when I had the ct-scan they told me that they found hole on top of my cochleas (both left and right ear) and that is the reason why I am deaf as it was not developed right. Yet I still have residual hearing in my right ear.. and i do wear hearing aid.. i used to have residual hearing in my left ear but it was not useable due to the fact it was static so i didnt wear hearing aid. Now its gone due to Meniere's Disease. so i am confused now? hmm.. the audiologist told me they cut thru nerves to get electrodes thru the nerves to cochlea thats what she told me. I am going to ask her again about this so i can understand this .

LOL You're right but it's a little hard to see. It says Oticon Sumo XP. Is it analog or digital?

No , it isn't. It's programmable analog. The digital one is Sumo DM.

I advice you digital. Trust me. I used analog for 17.5 years and now I'm using digitals. They are so filexible. I had the audiologist re-programmed my digitals ,today. He increased soft sound gain and lowered loud sound gain. I'm now hearing a little better .

Thanks, Highlands. For now I'll stick with this free Oticon Sumo XP until I get back from my vacation then I'll look into the digital one. In your opinion, which is the best digital hearing aid out there? Provide a link if possible.

Thanks again...dude or dudette? :)

There are several good digitals. I only have a few links, sorry.
For Sumo DM visit sumodm.oticon.com

Another good super power hearing aid is Supore 412 ,supero 413 AZ with directional microphone , powermaxx 411 ( this one is cheaper ) from Phonak inc. visit Phonak hearing systems - Improving your life quality

visit Unitron's site Unitron Hearing - Improving the lives of people with hearing loss ( I don't know any model name )

If you want a cheaper digital aid, I advice you Powermax 411 by Phonak.

If you can afford high prices then select Sumo DM or Supero 413 AZ. Supero 413 includes directional microphone.

And First of all, try to get a trial period for final decision. Don't buy before seeing how it works in your ear.

I am a dude,of course

Good luck :)

Thanks for the info, dude. I'll check 'em out.

I was looking at the Widex Inteo. Sounds interesting. Widex Inteo - The World's Most Advanced Digital Hearing Aid - Widex Inteo

Only concern is that, if these digital hearing aids are supposed to balance noise, how would that affect my hearing when I play my electric guitar with background music? Oh well, I'll find out sooner or later.

You are welcome. Widex is also good.

Yes, they may distort music. It's because digitals are mainly designed for speech understanding not music. Therefore, ask your audi if the digital he/she sells have a music programme ! Some digitals have additional music listening programme that do not distort music too much. Try the music programme with your quitar. See if it is good sounding or not. The sumo dm, for example, have three progamme ( memory ), I think one of them can be made a music listening program.

Good luck :)

I've been stoned deaf for a few days already and my world has never been so silent before, at least not in a while. I can't understand words said in songs, I can't play my guitar, and I can't hear/understand people talking to me. :eek3:

Looking forward to getting a new hearing aid. Anyone who has used both analog and digital hearing aids, is it worth getting the digital hearing aid? I had the in-the-ear hearing aid but now I want the BTE hearing aid. Suggestions?

By the way, am I not deaf enough to be an administrator of AD?

Go for Digital Otican Sumo DM Hearing aid(s)! ... OOooh I love it. I got them today. I was told to get used to it for a while .. up to 2 weeks. Immediately I love it. It is much smaller too! Today I heard a few new sounds that I had never heard in my life! How interesting. Happy Oticon. Phonak ---> ugh but it is analog - not digital.. and I had rarely worn them since 2003! I had used the old Otican's (about 10 or less years old) til I got my new aids today
