SideKick I & II Versus Motorola A630

My husband uses SK and I am thinking about getting A630, because it turns out that it has better battery life (compare SK's 2.5 days and A630's 10 days!). My husband is thinking about switching SK to A630, because not only the battery life, but reception isn't that consistent anymore. A630 doesn't have internet (we don't care, since we use our computer at home anyway - most important with text/e-mail msgs for us), and finally at last, now offers Data Plan only (deafpager.com, garthmobile.net, dune4mobile.com and soon to be available, at fusewireless.com this week) ! I don't know about GoAmerica.com (formerly, wynd.com - not sure), though. So, I thought you might be interested; and I know that everyone has their own preferences, which is just perfectly fine.

I've heard about the new Motorola pager. However, I'm still going to go with the Sidekick II.

Stay far away from GoAmerica/Wyndtell. Stay very far away.
Worst customer service on the planet.

I'd look for a different provider for the A630 or any pager.

VamProyx, that is fine. Whatever is best suitable for your needs! ;)

Steve, I second that - GoAmerica/Wyndtell has the WORST customer service; and I have never bought or used any pager through that company at all. So, like I mentioned earlier, I don't know if GoAmerica has that A630 or not. Basically, it is just up to others, for their choices to make - I personally don't care about GoAmerica, anyway.

Whoa, hold up. Last I checked, their customer service was outsourced to CSD, which DRAMATICALLY improved their service. Check again.

The reason behind the "terrible customer service" reputation was originally because GoAmerica screwed the pooch and merged Wyndtell's customer service with their nationwide customer service, but decided to limit the customer service to just 3 HOURS A day during the week. They LEARNED from that mistake.

Dennis - That may be true, but how come I do still hear other people complaining about their customer service plus the additional fees on pagers for which they refer as "ridiculous"?

I'm sure that GoAmerica/Wyndtell is trying to improvise things for the consumers and yet, I still have to see that for myself. I am not criticizing GoAmerica/Wyndtell, but I just had to be blunt about the behavior of their customer service, anyway. So, hope they have learned their mistake, like you said. :)

Everyone - On the other hand, just FYI: I was notified just today that on garthmobile.net, Nokia 6800 will offer Unlimited Data Plan only, just now. You can check it out if interested. :)

thank god i never used Wyndtell -- ive heard SO MUCH shit abt them -- the way they conducted their "business" was absolutely in the negative even if Dennis has said "...which DRAMATICALLY improved their service..." i still wouldnt use them period -- i cant trust a company with a VERY bad reputation/history in every areas including customer service

i have a SK2 and its working well for me :thumb:

Yup, I wouldn't use Wyndsteal for various reasons either! Someone informed me that SK1 is physically stronger than SK2, but SK2 has more options and features.

Now, that looks like a ogo clone.

lol I used to have wyndtell pager but I got rid of it last almost 2 years ago but they didn't really turn my pager off til I tried to turn it on and now it's off (every time I turn on wyndtell it wud ask me if I wanted to have it back on it wud pop a small screen sayin yes or no.. jesus) sheesh.. but lucky they didn't even bill me cuz my contract was expired already so I asked them and I was a bitch to wyndtell cuz they asked me a stupid question WHY want I have to close stupid wyndtell acct? I was like :pissed: so then afterwards they got pissed  they asked for it ;)

I will be getting a T-Mobile Sidekick 2 soon. I like the way they look and I think its very cool. I'm tired to have a cellphone and i'm tired to have to type on a cellphone, a keyboard like sidekick will make me type more faster. heh.

I think that Wyndtell's customer service is really improving - however - I am not advocating them :) I would do very well without their service. Unfortunately I was suckered into a 2 year contract (ending this August) and so thats that. There once was a time where SK was not free or cheap, that was when I signed up for my wynd.

Anyways, what really sucks about wynd is their coverage. They claim to have full coverage in certain places, and then it doesn't. Their excuse was that weather conditions, uphill/downhill makes a difference. I don't care if I keep my pager only 10 feet away from the window, it should fking work. :)

So, you want hassle free service? I hear SK is good :) 1 or 2, i dont think it really makes that much of a difference. I suppose it depends on what your needs are. All I wanted was mobile email, and thats still all I want. To each their own :P

edit: i realize my whole post has nothing to do with motorola =X whoops :P

It's ok -- it's good to see comparisons between the devices mentioned in here. :) It says both SK 2 and Motorola A630. ;)

I'm getting a SK 2 in a few days. :D

ooh, about time! finally, austrailia sells SK. must be an exciting news for the deafies.

A630, I saw in the store at T-Moblie booth. It was so small and flip from phone to SK style. I not know if we can do the type that tiny thing ??

I am forwarding to see SK3 :)

Ah, I was about this CLOSE to buying Motorola A630 :giggle: but decided to hold it off. May that be a small device, although A630 is still good and has good service, according to my friends. If you're thinking about getting that, you'll first need to investigate on which pager is best to use in your local area where it should provide a good coverage (reception) - it really does depend on the location(s).

I also really like Blackberry 7290, since it offers unlimited e-mail plan WITHOUT voice service (finally at last!) :) They also mentioned that the Blackberry brand is still considered the most reliable ones to have. Very good coverage, but expensive, understandably. I'd probably wait until when the price goes down then.

I only care about the battery life and reliability; so I won't have to just go, "Oh, I have to recharge it again...too short already..." Of course, SK is still very good, but itself has 2.5 days' battery life? My husband has to recharge it every time - it just annoys him a teeny weeny bit, because he really needs it all the time due to between his job and me, of course. :)

It's all about having own "preferences". If you do find one that you would be most comfortable with based on your own needs, then that's great. So, be it. :thumb:
