Should 4 year olds get ATVs?

Ehh, 4 years old riding on the atv? I don't really know if it's safe but depends on kids..some kids don't really good at balance or not understand enough with gas or machine.. Some kids is good at it early. I would rather them play riding atv on flat street, not on dirt big pile yet. And not around strangers people who ride on atv too or not near cars. Just use country like quiet place. More safe.

I think 35 mph is pretty fast for 4 years old. Need more slower than that.

 We will plan to get mini ATV for my 8 years old daughter next year!

I'm against it at first due to safety concerns and knowledge of high accidental rates related to ATV use. If the child consistently exercises safety protocols and maintains them at a level that ensures the well-being of themself at all times during ridership, then I'd be more prone to allow him/her to have an ATV.

Personally, I'd buy a go-kart because its safer in collisions compared to ATVs. Plus they go faster lol.

Many kids get injured on Go-Karts too. I remember when I was a teen. My little brothers Friend was killed on a Go Kart.

Your friend is crazy! I thought there was a law against babies driving ATV! I hate to say it but you better get ready for a funeral if your insane friend does buy her kid an ATV!

I am against ATV for 4 years old. A four years old is not that responsible.

In this case the parents are not being Responsible!! Are they going to let the kids drive the car as they're soon big enough to reach the gas pedal!

This is my daughter when she was about 10. She has been riding the four wheeler since she was about 6ish.

I'm jealous. I wish I had something as cool as that while I was growing up.

We had three of them... Now we are down to two. One was stolen a while back. But it is fun to get together with friends and head out in the woods or the mud hole. :)

No fucking way, too dangerous. I would be so concerned about a 4 year old's motor skills. I would prefer to wait until they are like 14 or so before buying them one. I would however let them ride with me if I had my own ATV that I drive.

Where I came from, we had 8 years old driving their own snowmobiles, it was legal then, I don't know if it is still legal today. However, my younger brother and my foster was killed in a snowmobiling accident, they were going across the lake on ice to get back home after a day of snowmobiling, and the ice broke, they went into the water and both did not make it, both drowned. That was on Christmas Day 2005. The ice broke because the weather had been warmer than normal on Christmas Day. They totally thought it was safe because they saw other neighbors going across the same area of the lake earlier that day (totally normal in the wintertime). My brother and my foster dad was fine going across the lake to get to a trail but coming back they got killed. My brother was just 18 years old, my foster dad 50 years old.

it's up to parents. If the parents feel their kids are responsible enough - then go ahead as long as parents are well-informed and well-aware of the risk. Same thing with guns. It's up to parents to teach the kid how to shoot at any age.

How about a bicycle instead?

Does a 4-year old have the judgment necessary and understand the consequences of his/her actions?

I agree. No f*ck*ng way!

Why not one of those little cars made for young kids? My kid had one. It was slow but my kid loved it.

I concur with other posters. I wouldn't recommend ATV as a gift for a child. I would prefer they be an adult to ride the ATV.

My nieces and nephew's father was killed when he was riding a ATV and it flipped him off and rolled into the air and then landed on top of him.

I know some people who are already skilled with some things that even an adult is very impressed. I think I knew a kid who already knew how to drive John Deere tractors at age 3 or 4.

Nothing to wrong with him as he is responsible. Btw it's lawn tractor.
