Some of them can't. And the school system helps with free (or lower cost) lunches. So when school is cancelled, it's rough on the kids, regardless of who is responsible.

And in today's economy, parents can barely afford the essential things kids need to survive, and that's never a good thing. People who have a comfortable job and good pay never have to worry about that, but the rest of us have plenty of worries.

I have food stamps, and it BARELY covers the cost of food. I have enough for 2-3 weeks of food, and that's about it. That's why I try to hold off on good shopping until later in the month, so I'll have enough to last through the month.

It's pretty hard to made a lunch where there is not enough food in the house. This about families having a hard feeding their kids , if there is a snow day a lot kids do not get a hot lunch and breakfast .

I have food stamps, and it BARELY covers the cost of food. I have enough for 2-3 weeks of food, and that's about it. That's why I try to hold off on good shopping until later in the month, so I'll have enough to last through the month.

It is cheaper to buy food at Walmart but if you buy food from local grocery - cost more.

When food stamp runs out, you have to spend your own money on 1-2 week of food.

It will not getting a better because the congress will make extra cut to food stamp within year.

I agree that if there are unnecessary expenses, those should be given up: food should be a first priority, and you're right, it can be bread and peanut butter.

But for people who are already living without luxuries etc., and still can't make ends meet, they should get some help. You said they shouldn't have kids, but their situation may have changed after they started their families. Maybe someone got laid off and couldn't find work at a decent wage etc.

Well, life isn't easy.

It's pretty hard to made a lunch where there is not enough food in the house. This about families having a hard feeding their kids , if there is a snow day a lot kids do not get a hot lunch and breakfast .

I survived with very little lunch at deaf school because foods were lousy and tasted bad. I learned very hard way, though.

It will be parent's responsibility to get a help like food banks or contact the charities - it means they need to hunt to get enough food.

It isn't first time for kids to be hungry due to lack of food, so it did happen to many kids, including me.

What is your current monthly budget for food? (cash and food stamps total)

For my government checks, it's just over $740, and my food stamps is $155, so almost $900 total, but more than $600 worth of my government checks goes to paying my bills, leaving very little for myself to use, and that's why I need to learn to make better use of that little money I get.
