Scary flight...

That is very sad :( the cargo hold SHOULD be waterproof in case the plane crash into river or sea.

While it's a miracle that no one was hurt, I send my sympathy to the animals who died thru the crash thou.

Me too. Why do the animals have to go in cargo anyway. Why can't they be with their humans? They won't bother anyone as long as they are in a pet carrier.

there's only 2 pilots in the crew though....

**a pix of cockpit from the scene of old movie called Airplane! - a blow-up doll of pilot and a stewardess and a passenger with some flying experience because both pilots were poisoned.

Thanks for adding the discription.

Heart attacks is no longer an old farts disease. :)

I would rather to have a pilot with experience myself. but I dont fly much anyways. I hate flying for a particular reason. The fear of heights that I have. I so much rather to be attached to the ground.

I don't know about you, but I try to make it a practice never to have an old fart as a pilot. I much prefer a human being.:giggle:

Update as i checked about the pets as it noted that US Airways didn't have pets in the cargo on the flight in the crash thou they don't carry pets in the cargo hold.

as the US Airways said no pets were onboard in the cargo hold, with a spokesperson stating: "We don't carry pets in our cargo."

that i was relieved about that but were relieved for others as well.

I'm glad to hear about that.

Some people have allergies, and some people have animal phobias. Those are the first two that popped off the top of my head.

Also, not to mention the animals can break lose in the plane due to human mistake, always happens, and then cause chaos on the flight. Snakes on the plane. Monkey hurdling through the overhead lockers. Birds flying into the pilot's face. Dog pooping on sleeping Joe's shoe. Cat barfed on the 3 year old toddler across the isle. Rabbit escaped and chewing the emergency oxygen masks. Chihuahua yapping its head off.
Think if Ace Ventura had his complete zoo on the plane.. that's probably as bad as it could get.

I think the only place people have agreed or are subconsciously okay with it is that they were somewhere in the plane no one knew except a few. Sadly, the cargo bay isn't a place of utmost importance when you're in an emergency situation like this. Humans first. Others come after.

Same procedure follows for law enforcement, firefighters - rescue people first, animals later despite what the people want.

I'm sure the airport people can check to make sure that all the carriers are firmly shut so the animals DONT get out in flight. It just seems to me that keeping the pets in hold doesnt seem a good thing. It just adds stress to the animals involved. I would never fly an animal unless they were alowed inside the passangers section of the plane with me.

When I travel with my pets on bus or train I have their carrier on my lap.

there you go. If you choose to fly with airline whose policy is to keep animal in cargo hold, then tough luck. if you don't like it - there are other modes of transportation. or... just hire a dog sitter while you're gone.

what you can do is get your dog certified as service animal and it can go with you in passenger section but you may have to pay for that seat.

My dog is already a service animal. She's a guide dog. I was refering to my other pets.

ah there you go. but as for your other pets.... sorry. If you don't like it - don't use it. sorry to sound callous but it's how it is.

I live in England. So I'm unlikely to take any of my rodents abroad anyway. They only travel via public transport when I needed to take them to the vet. Other then that I use sitters. Jilli my guide dog (soon to be ex guide dog) is the only critter that accompanies me everywhere.

This doesn't stop me from thinking OTHER PEOPLE's animals would be better off with their humans. It's just how I feel.

I know. I have a dog too. I leave him at my friend's place when we travel. cargo hold does put a lot of stress in pets so only do it if you have to.

I agree. For rodents such as chinchillas ANY travel is stressful. So they have critter sitters too.

sorry but I had to laugh cuz I was thinking about how my mom would freak out like crazy if she saw chinchillas running by. My mom hated my ferret cuz she still thinks it's a giant giant rat. oh and also it smells :laugh2:

I wonder - since chinchillas are small... think you can try to sneak it away by putting them in your bag?

My other rodents are pet rats.

Not likely! (smile) They would hop out in no time and before you knew it the whole plane would know about a chinny amonst them. I'd also have a lot of damages to pay since chinchilla's chew a lot. They've already distroyed a futon and half my wallpaper is missing. The rest of my furniture all has chingravings on it. Definatly NOT Worth the risk (LOL)

There's a great way to get yourself thrown off the plane when it escapes.

here's a pix of approximate location of plane crash... but no airplane in the pix.
