Hi anyone from Bay area and NorCal (not mentioning the south of S.F. though)

What else of the special attraction should I visit other than Golden Gate, Haight-Ashbury, and Alcatraz Island?

I am thinking maybe I stay around in Bay area for 4 or 5 days no more or less. I am having a little difficulty about the decision of renting a car in S.F. I had a research on SF travel website a bit that parking a car is nearly impossible in SF but there is offer of renting a scooter for 20 bucks a day. However, I had never been riding a scooter before! I think it's kinda dangerous to ride a scooter over the Golden Gate bridge, right? From looking at the picture of GG bridge, it must be a little more longer walking by foot over the bridge rather than Brooklyn Bridge, NYC...isn't it? If I want to pay a visit in Berkeley and the beach coast somewhere north of SF, it is better off to rent a car, right? I just believe that there would be some difficult to get around in and out of SF without a car since I read some tourists' reviews that transportations such as buses and shuttle (trolleys) are kind of slow.

Besides that, for deaf event and deaf socials, I would like to know the local website schedules for the Deaf Bay area, thanks!

I had no problem finding a parking lot in SF (I've lived there for 3.5 years). Berkeley is very nice..tons of health stores and coffee stores.

When are you coming? There are parking garages all over SF, especially in areas where parking spaces are hard to come by. If you need a place to stay, I might be able to hook you up with one of my friends. Many of them are the couchsurfing.com sort.

Mid-November. I will be riding on Amtrak from Ontario, CA to SF after the weekend of MataExpo 2011.

Parking garages aren't free by charge, don't they? I'd rather save some budget if I stay around in SF for a day or two using buses and shuttles without renting a car. After leaving out of SF, I will rent a zip car then. I will ask my brother about his first experience visit in SF earlier this year. I found a BART schedule information on his desk in the bedroom.

No, they're not but neither is Bart, bus, or muni. Much cheaper though and almost everywhere worth going is within walking distance from the three.

I also suggest you visit 511.org. It will give you the best routes and methods as opposed to the Bart website which only gives Bart routes. :)

I ain't riding bike in SF or any other city.

You don't need a car in SF since SF has won the #2 Most walkable city in the US, and the #1 most bicycle-friendly city in the US.

You can also rent Go Car to drive around the uphill/downhill streets of SF, and the most crookedest street in the world..... fun experience for sure.

GoCar - The Cure for the Common Tour. Exciting sightseeing activities in San Francisco, San Diego and Miami!

I'll cause a national news, riding my bike up the crooked road... And gasping for air every turn. Headline will be "Gasping Hippo trying to scale the crooked road of SF gets shot by the local law enforcement"

Thanks for the much resourceful website link you gave, warpedpink. And to Naisho and Authentic, yea, yeah, I thought twice after studying on the maps of light rail, rail, and cable cars. Thumbs Up. I am very tempted to look forward to camping and hiking up at Yosemite Nat'l Park when I;m done touring around SF.

Wtf...Naisho's post isn't in this thread. I meant Jiro. Lol. But isn't Naisho from Bay Area or close?

Haha, it is cool. My brother's near the bay area, I was on the east coast for awhile, now in cali again :D
Totally ditched snow season. Woot!

Eh, it's hardly cold temperature season as of right now. Seems pretty much delaying of true Autumn season here.

I read the weather info about Bay area and it says the weather is very weird and unpredictable temperature.

ok, I do not recall seeing the snow on tv sitcoms and movies that were filmed in SF.

Haha, it is either rain or sun or both. Year round weather is right :)

Won't snow unless you go up to higher elevation like big bear or shasta.. rest assured there is like 0.00000001% chance of snow

Is it your first time in cali?
