Yeah I have a couple of friends that was mad and they defended me....... They never even asked me what happened. they knew I was not like that and that the person was trying to slander against me...... so I do feel good that my friends do got my back

if u dont think that anybody that re not ur true friend, u can speak out of ur mouth into their face to expressed ur feelings... and walks away.

Just ignore them, and find a better friend, just like I did.

I need help getting in the deaf world and the person who was suppose to help me was the same one going around slandering against me....personally I wasnt surprised but it was personal when tried to tell my friends too.....how do I break into the deaf world besides the social.....I dont go to a deaf school or part of a deaf club....it is hard making connections..... I do know a couple of older deaf but like I said they are older - i would like to make friends with people around my age.....I feel sometimes helpless like wolfy boy said the deaf world seems to pass rumors like wildfire.....it makes it hard for me to feel comfortable being deaf... that is why I dont have pride in my deafness sometimes......

Be happy you aren't here at NTID/RIT. Rumors and gossips spread around so fast that you can say it one way and hear it by the time you turn around! For instance, you can be on one side of campus and fart in front of your friends. By the time you get to the other side of campus, people there will be like, "I heard you farted up a storm! What did you eat?"

NO shit... Just because someone told a guy one thing and within half hour, almost the entire community knows!

LMAO It can't be that bad. But, I can see how rumors can spread fast though. Seems like most people carry a pager. Something happens, and someone can post it on here with their sidekick.

why is the deaf world like that?? If I hear something about the person I may be like oh really....ah....... but I wouldnt go around and blab it to everybody...it would just stay with me........ It seems like there is no privacy.....I dont know.....can anyone explain it ......

Deaf...hearing...there are always rumors. I believe it all depends on the size. I feel that smaller communities have more rumors than larger ones. When I went to a small school, I remember hearing many more rumors than when I was in a larger shool. And since the Deaf community is small, that is why there is more rumors.

hey all men are created equal

especially the hearing and deaf ppl are

so what do you do in the Deaf world when you hear rumors about you.....

well, should be asking me if it's true than wondering abou that rumor for years and didn't ask me. So i tell her/him either the rumor is true or false. Sometimes I have to lie to protect myself or someone else for good.

Looks like everyone havent seen the real stories of hearing world.

only one negative thing about deaf world, is that it spreads all over the nation, (only if youre well known in the deaf world.)

I agree with Katziechick.... :booty: at 'em.... they are simply not worthy of your association, babyphat... deaf culture or not. I never hang out with those who are like that, even when I'm in a strong deaf community like Gallaudet. Not all folks are like that, thank goodness. I've had the luck of meeting some really awesome deaf people.

I think the rumor mill and the so called deafie thing are due to learned behavior... survival and bullying tactics to make themselves feel good, I suppose. They probably haven't learned another way that is positive to feel good about themselves yet. I have been discussing with a friend about this very social problem that seems to be rampant in the deaf community, and especially in other communities... hell, folks in Puerto Rico and Norway are prone to the very same thing! It's not limited to deaf folks. It's like meeting someone who easily whips out insults at you... "you stupid girl!" " you idiot!".... that kind of thing! I've often told people to not do that because I simply don't like it... and they don't do it. They will learn and adapt for the better.. thanks to you!

Just keep on being your true self, and you will attract the kind of friends, deaf or hearing/hoh that will like you for you. I think you're a good person. ;)
