Rude Awakening today...

Dang! glad that she is okay but she will definitely be feeling it for the next few days. I would be postponing the interview- if she explains why they'll understand and maybe work with her on alternate ways to interview.

A friend of mine rolled his car I think 3 times when he swerved to avoid a deer (he was speeding also). Saw pics of the car- it was FLAT... but he was able to crawl out. All he had were bumps and bruises- one cut up by eye.

My best wishes for her recovery!

Thanks everyone. Yes, she will be feeling it tomorrow Im sure.
I was talking to her about this new job interview... The travel distance, cost of fuel, lack of benefits and other factors.... its not worth it for her to even go. Yes, maybe a good opportunity to get her foot in the door and transfer or apply later, but without a vehicle, living 45 minutes from where I am and worst in traffic... going to a job about an hour or more from where she is.... its not practical, and I cant afford to run her around as well as anyone else as everyone else works full time and opposit directions, its just not worth it. Kinda sad but in reality, shes better off working where she is and find something closer ( her current job is just about a mile from her house )

Funny thing is, just a few nights ago she had a Deer run into the side of her car, no damage, on the crazy backroad to her house.... deer out of nowhere just ran into her and took off not like she ran into it, strange,

Just curious, what about public transportation in STL metro? I'm sure that they are bad and limited coverage.

Yeah, she is outside of any area that has it... , they dont even have Cab service.

Same here - no public transportation at all.

In our metro, most bus routes are in crime ridden neighborhoods.

Sure hope we get a good update on her condition.

But I will admit when it comes to the vehicle I first thought of the jeep I thought you had just fixed up for her. Have I lost count of how many daughters you have of driving age?

Yes, due to the truck being in the road and not on the shoulder, they really wouldnt have had much of an entrance because the cones are supposed to taper to the broke down vehicle which werent in place. basically the truck in front of her didnt see it either due to the other big truck in front of hi, reason he swerved at the last momment... at least she has one witness who seen it all, because none of the ass-hats driving the big trucks stopped to help her, just the old lady who seen it.

Some questions about what the other people did or didn't do.

How long had the broken down truck been disabled? They may have not yet had time to get cones out.

Remember that big trucks have different "blind spots" than cars do. Were the ones ahead of her even aware of what happened to her?

Jane, one son 5 and daughter 22. She didnt get a jeep.Instead she wanted the Stratus sxt which she totaled.

Today she is sore, a little sleep deprived as she kept having nightmares about the crash.

Im not sure if the big trucks seen her but the lady who witnessed it said they slowed but kept going. The guy in the broke down truck was said to be acting funny, hiding his face from people and tried avoiding the authorities but did set out his road flairs after the fact ( and after the police arrived ) so I think it was his fault for the accident in a way for not warning anyone, because he was in the acceleration lane and not the shoulder, he was still on the road and obstructing people getting on, which could have been avoided by a few simple markers, either cones/flares/reflectors. Im trying to get info through the PD but the report is not in the system yet so will probly take a week. If it states the cause was lack of markers for the broke down vehicle ( or if it lacks it) Ill have it put in as good measure by the responding officer and get witness info and sue.

Those reflectors are immediately supposed to be set out and theres a reason for it. And they are carried in a toolbox attached to the truck, so no excuse not having any. It was a CDL construction truck, MoDot requirement for any CDL vehicles.

It does seem like more needs to be found out about the guy that broke down.

I was wondering about timing because it does take a bit to get things out and get them set up without the driver getting hit as well. If the truck just quit and they were right behind him it makes sense the flares/reflectors were not out. Although it sounds like that was not the case in this instance after all.

apparently he has been broke down quite awhile there, he didnt just stop. So he had plenty of time to get them out...and they still werent out after the police showed up from my understanding. But it does not take long to radio in and jump out to set them up. I worked for water division driving the utility and dump trucks, I know the routine and it takes all but 2 minutes to set them out.

You said the truck driver was trying to hide his face when the police were there so I am thinking he is know to the police and could have some traffic violations . Can you get the truck driver driving records from the police ?

He would need to be dumb as a post if he thought hiding his face was a protection.

His license and registration will tell them everything they need to know.

What really irks me on the whole ordeal is my parents bought her a road hazard/towing package from AAA, and the insurance I got her included towing/medical... so, after telling the police, they still had it towed by a private company to this companies lot, just found out we have to pay 275 to get the car out where her free towing with AAA was to anywhere ( which she wanted it taken to her house) to maybe part out the good parts and scrap the rest... now to add insult to injury, we have to fork out 275 to get the car then have it towed again, so what little money she could have recouped on parting out, is now down the drain. Trying to find her a replacement car on the cheap, but looking a bit gloom for now.

Isn't she getting enough insurance money for totaling the car? When my 1995 Jeep Cherokee was totaled I got enough money to buy a 2000 Cherokee.

No, she bought the car for 1600, the bluebook was 1800, insurance only wants to pay about 600.... really pisses me off.
I paid off a 2000 neon I bought new 17000., my second wifes kid totaled it just a few days later ( this was in 2002 ) they gave me 6000, and it barely had 8000 miles on it. kept in excellent shap and well maintained because i had free oil changes and more through dealership since I bought it new... grrrrr

Insurance companies are major rip offs.

Oh, my. I got more than Blue Book value for my Cherokee. I was pleasantly surprised.

I guess not all insurance companies are created equal.

Would you be willing to tell who you have insurance with?
