Huh? That movie rules!

EDIT: What I'm talking about is the scene where the economics teacher (played by Ben Stein, a real life economist) was teaching about the "Hawley-Smoot tariffs" in his dry way. He got the 2 names, Hawley and Smoot, backwards but that's how I always hear it in my head because of that scene.

I was just kidding, I assure you. However, I understand it was Dan Quayle's favorite movie, so I was a bit resistant in seeing it. lol

Wait, you haven't seen it? What are you doing on alldeaf? Get off the computer and go see it!

 Okay, okayyyy, I will rent it today. My curiosity is piqued. I have heard it was a decent movie so I will see for myself.

Let's take a huge portion of those politicians' salaries and other pork barrel projects to spend on more worthwhile projects!

Funny you should mention that. I just read yesterday that CA provides State Sens and Reps with $50,000 cars and insures them. One congresswoman had $300,000+ wreck. No wonder this place is broke.

How did she have a $300,000+ wreck on a $50k car??? Did she wreck 6 cars???

Hopefully Jerry Brown will clean up some of this wasteful crap. It was a good start with getting rid of the government issued cellphones. Hopefully it won't stop there.

I'm going to guess -

bodily injury liability and/or property damage liability. collision coverage for both cars.

Good point. She probably killed or seriously injured someone :(

That crap must stop.

A fender bender on a Bugatti or a Rolls Royce will do the trick as well.

Edit:Almost $400,000 wreck

Yeah someone was hurt....that was a big part of it

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio lambasted President Barack Obama's budget proposal today, issuing the following statement:

“Sadly, the president has missed a golden opportunity to have an adult conversation with the American people about the seriousness and urgency of our debt crisis. The president’s budget falls far short of tackling our national debt in a serious way. Although we face a $1.6 trillion deficit and a staggering national debt that exceeds $14 trillion, the president’s proposal would add $7.2 trillion of new debt over the next ten years. The fact that the president’s 10-year proposed ‘savings’ is less than this year’s budget deficit alone is proof that this is a budget that cannot be taken seriously.

“While the president insists he will take the commendable step of vetoing earmarks, his silence on entitlement reform, the absence of meaningful spending cuts and his reliance on anti-competitive tax increases will cause more economic uncertainty, stifle job creation and keep America on a path towards a diminished future.

“Today’s excruciating problems are the legacy of decades of profligate spending by both parties. We have a job-crushing debt because Washington has repeatedly postponed the tough decisions for someone else to deal with down the road. The American people have every reason to be disappointed by the president’s budget and by Washington politicians who either don’t understand the seriousness of our fiscal crisis, or who are simply not willing to confront this challenge head-on.”

Rome wasn't built in a day. We cannot risk having the economy drop to the level it had been, and it could. New jobs would be created thru Obama's proposals. Did you follow his speech today? Rubio is trying to pave his way into the upper echelon of t he Republican Party. Issues will be decided, not by the President, but by the Congress, working together to solve our immediate needs, not aiming to preserve party ideology.Solve our immediate needs WITH THE FUTURE IN MIND etc.

Where have I heard that before????? :laugh2:

Nah I think it was that MEGA Job creator........

THE STIMULUS

I see. Personally I cannot complain about its effects, since I see higher-paying jobs around here that resulted. I contrast that with "McJobs" created by the trickle-down theory of giving huge tax breaks to the very rich. I suppose I haven't seen enough of the USA to see all aspects, so I guess time will tell.

Right now there is more charity than jobs, I agree. I was struck my how helpful and charitable everyone in neighborhoods were after the last blizzard: people were shoveling out driveways of infirm neighbors, clearing snow from cars and even bringing food to some, and I can't remember the last time I saw that. Maybe it's just me, but something's got to give. It would be nice if big business did their part and start hiring people again, but they aren't as charitable. Oh well.

Lawmakers' ill-fated SUV costs taxpayers a bundle

If she willingly stopped taking her meds, then the insurance will no doubt not pay off. She bears culpability for her action (not taking her meds) that led to the accident. And she is left wide open for civil liability, which will be covered by no insurance company or the government.
