Yes, it can be overused just like racism is everyday for the last 50 years. Smile...

But is that a GOOD thing?

I agree that pretty much every "-ism" word denoting prejudice of some kind is way overused (racism, sexism, anti-semitism). In that respect audism is no different. But it's a pretty serious charge to accuse someone of being a racist, being an anti-semite, or being an audist. Just think about it before you (and I mean the general "you," meaning everyone, including me) place a label on them, because I bet you don't want to be labelled yourself.

:gpost: Very well said. I think that people tend to slap this label on folks without really knowing it's meaning.

Pardonez Moi!

Uhmm Excuse me... did I say you? :dunno:

"audism or audist"

We do not use those terms much in this location. Can anyone explain why they use those terms for against ASL ?? It makes no sense to me.

What's hilarious is that I've been labeled Audist here even when I can't pronounce anything correctly and can't hear anything at all.

Deaf can be audist too.

It is same what women call men sexists/sexism.

Need I say more?

Get the drift?

Thank you!

The one of these I feel qualified to speak about personally is sexism. As a woman, I DO think some men can be sexist. However, I also believe that some women are sexist and hate all men for no reason; these women tend to use the term "sexist" to destroy any man who happens to get in their way for ANY reason, even if by accident. To me, both the man who oppresses women, and the woman who takes "revenge" are both wrong.

Hahaha, now I get it. I was wondering what the heck Deaf Images meant by that.

Am I the only one who noticed here on AD lately that the word "audism or audist" has been OVERUSED and OVERABUSED here????!!!

I feel that 90 percent of these who overuse that term simply dont know what it means but likes to throw it around casually. Now they throw that term around in EVERY situation that SEEMS to be AGAINST ASL.

I am damn sick of seeing that. I am tired of that label. I dont see anyone abusing the term ASL militant or whatnot. Why is it okay for others to make it seem like an evil word???!!!

Thanks for letting me rant and rave - I know that many would consider me audist BASED on my background but they would never give me a chance to explain myself, etc. I m just tired of that silly label. It seems like they are not creative enough to come up with another better or accurate label or whatnot. *steaming between my ears* Come on, guys, you can do better than throw audism or audist at anything or anyone that seem to be "against" your beliefs.

:squint:
The term is used by only a few posters, mostly to identify someone who disagrees with the view of the poster.
It has been used so much that it has totally lost it's meaning. It could even have become funny had it not been such a negative word.

Again, when used by some posters, it loses all it's power.

But for the nerds on AllDeaf; I would be interested to see some statistics on how much the word was used and by who.
Does anyone have a way to do this in an intellectual way?

I suppose Dr. Tom Humphries will consider it racist if it is overused.

We prefer to be called Geeks (thank you!) I'm sure an administrator could possibly create a search. A mininum of two searches would be required. One for audist and one for audism (non case sensetive). That should yeild the posts and from there they would have to extract and tally up the user names. Depending on the date range you are searching, this could be a bizillion posts. Oh, yeah... a bizillion equals a billion zillion

Rockdrummer,

As per Google Trends; not enough volumes eh

why is audism.org using this logo which can be found on back of $1 bill? and why are they associating with The Illuminati ?

logoaudismfinb.gif

from: (#43) http://www.money.org/faq.html#Question43
The reverse of the seal, located on the left, was submitted by William Barton and displays a pyramid, a symbol of strength and permanence, however the structure was left incomplete, just as the United States continues to grow and build. The eye in the triangle overlooking the pyramid suggests the "all-seeing Deity" emphasizing spiritual welfare, while also recognizing education and freedom of knowledge. The Latin phrase "ANNUIT COEPTIS" translates "He (God) has smiled on our undertakings." The mottos have 13 letters, and there are 13 steps on the pyramid. "NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM" means "A new order of the ages." The date at the base, 1776, refers to signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

and the owner of the website just cropped out the image around the pyramid and plopped a Octopus on it.

anyway http://www.greatseal.com/symbols/pyramid.html more info about the great seal.

I was wondering if the founder of audism.org are trying to associate with Illuminati hmm?
http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/NWO/All_Seeing_Eye.htm or http://cybersole.net/index.cfm?id=1883&fus...rowse&pageid=65

so does the picture of Octopus on Pyramid on that logo be related to: "The Octopus" ?
http://www.steamshovelpress.com/fromeditor24.html hmm?

so why did they create that logo? and notice the picture of the founders, they tried to sign after those logo?

When I came across a site that have sign for audism in 2003 and I posted this
if you are looking for sign for audism: here I found it at;
http://www.theinterpretersfriend.com/tech/vocab/a.html

Yeah and know what?, Deafism is occurring already in Norway as per this post;
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CI-Prelinguals/message/3523 than it was in 80's.

Who would want Deaf Org. make decision for you and your deaf child? they won't let you make decision for your deaf child regardless if you are hearing or deaf. eh... :dunno:

But I'm not from an oral background.
Sorry, I didn't mean you per se. It was a general comment. I just went to the following site http://library.gallaudet.edu/dr/faq-audism.html and discovered an updated description. Note that it says Persons who practice audism are called audists. Audists may be hearing or deaf. I know that I have been guilty of unintentional audism. I have researched this term and have seen the comments from others on the subject. I only hope that in this day and age, audism is not as prevelant as it was years ago. I know from personal experience that ignorance is part of it. Deaf awareness could help reduce that cause. There is not much you can do about the people that are hateful by nature so I don't think audism will go away completely.
