you will throw a rod. the absolute worst thing you can do to your car.
Throw a rod and hit an innocent bystander. Oh, no!
THat is the worst thing when you don't change the oil. The recommended invertals is about 3,000 miles in HARSH weather like very hot climates or very cold climates, constant stop n go traffic and commute on freeways 3 miles a day or so. 5,000-7500 miles for normal driving conditions. I change oil every 4,000 to 6,000 miles.
Some newer car allow 10k miles before changing oil. Same here, I changes oil between 4k to 6k miles average. Doesn't hurt tho.

I've done that on my old car, I didn't change oil until it's over 50k mile, I did top off oil once in ever week when it runs low. No oil leaks but engine burns oil. I stopped changing oil every 3k mile when my car was 170k miles. It still runs good when it reached 225k miles when I sold the car for $100 to my friend who need it. He kept driving until he wrecked the car when it was 235k miles
I agree that if you stop changing oil, the oil become thinner and black, it will not lubricate effectively and part of engine will wears out quickly.
I ever wonder if one use "Honey Oil" for car Very thick grade oil commonly used by Used Car dealer who tried to sell suckers a nice car with worn oil.
I remmy back in 80's that there were Slick 50 commercial that they poured in Slick 50 then run the car for few minutes then drained out oil then removed valve cover and oil pan then start the engine and run it at moderately high speed then they poured sand, nails ect and engine kept running as if it had no effect. Back then I DID think about doing it on my old jeep to show off engine with no valve cover and oil pan and remove side fenders so anyone can see it But I decide not to cuz I was thinking that commercial may be a joke.

My new 2011 Sienna get oil change every 10k miles, and I am not used to it. When I had Envoy, I always change oil every 3k miles. I think it is nice way to save the oil when every cars is able to keep oil for more than 10k miles. Keep environment safe and clean.
Hi, guys
I looked up the repair infro (Alldata) this morning at my work. Yes Im right about the oil life on a 2009 BMW 328I is 16K miles of a normal oil service interval. Seem to be longest oil life. But I didnt random more other vehicles in the repair infro, maybe other car have longest oil life? I dont know. Of course the oil life in diesel engines are much longer. We discuss about the gasoline powered engines.
Hey, oil services on German cars are not cheap, cost over $100 maybe $200 or more. Why? Mobil 1 syntheic motor oil. Those cars execpt 4 banger engines, have about 8 to 12 quarts of Mobil 1 in the sumps of 6, 8 or 12 banger engines.
Why you got a minivan? Do you have children and a wife? 10k miles, that's really cool!
TCS changes the oil in his work van every 30 driving days.
