I can't wait to see the unveiling of it at Deaf Expo!!!

They didn't unveil it at the Deaf Nation expo here last weekend. They did talk about it. It sounds like a better nTouch. Eh. They will roll it out by region. It's currently available in California.

Lucky Im still in waiting list. Cant wait to get Purple SmartVP.

P.S. After you got it, do you mind do a video review for us :D

Hello all, I didn't realize that it hasn't hit the market all over yet.. so it must be new.. I had two deaf employees one from Portland Oregon and the other from Indiana. They explained that they get flown to a specific area and install em.. I just happened to live in the area they were installing .. so anyways they came and during the set up they explained how it works etc.
The screen quality is still the same the faster your internet works the smoother. All I can say is that they finally caught up with technology and it has many features that makes it fun. Like there's a sd card slot that u can put in and pull pictures on screen. Has USB slot for (use ur imagination) I made a few calls. And decided it has caught up and now ill have 2 options use relay on the phone and type and read or use smartvp and sign and watch relay sign.
For those who like vco. It comes with its own line that u can speak and watch asl. No longer need to give a phone num to speak on a separate device like ur cell phone.
So I'd say its a good product. Hard to list everything on this, but when u get yours u will see the oother features it has to make it more enjoyable.:dj::grouphug::iolol:

Video quality that VP user gets on their screen usually depends on the quality of Internet signals. The poor Internet signals, the video quality suffers.

Other thing to keep in mind. Video is a number one Internet HOG, (At least three times than audio) period. The minimum Internet speed rate for Videophone generally at 256K... <BOTH> ways. You see other party video, and at the same time other sees you on the video, that is two way. Supposedly your Internet service provider provided you upload speed of 500KBPS (I used upload speed because they generally slower than download speed) and you have two Videophones, and you decided to use both at same time meaning upload speed of videophone A at 256K and upload speed of videophone B at 256K which totals 512K, that is 12K over the limit that ISP provided, both videophones WILL show poor signals at the other end, and I feel sorry for that person at the other end blamed their Videophone for poor video quality instead of that person with 2 VP at same time as the real problem.

Its my experience that I have seen and not many people realize that the video quality really depends on the signal, just same way with TV, if you got lousy antenna, would you expect perfect video quality coming out? I'm sure not, then what solution? Fix or tweak the antenna thingy to improve the video quality, same concept with Internet when it comes to video.

I have heard complaints that Hearing people have better or clear signals on their voice phone or whatever over the Internet or whatever the connection they used. The problem is that the audio part requirements which is really really very small, much smaller than video requires. They actually had similar issues during 1930's and earlier. The quality of sounds though phone was NOT that great back then, that is because their signals is much weaker, and over the time technology improved so that signals gets better over time. This will apply on Video eventually. We will get better video quality as long as ISP continues to improve the infrastructure.

So, switching your default VRS provider will NOT improve the video quality when your ISP is having their issues with their infrastructure. Sometimes there is nothing that ISP can do when there is problem with connection somewhere between first and last ISP. Like, if I called my friend and I used Time Warner, and my friend's VP using AT&T, there is backbone in-between Time Warner and AT&T, depending on who owns the backbone, sometimes neither of ISP can not resolve problem with the owner of backbone, for instance maybe they are already at maximum and not willing to upgrade because they are not hitting maximum often enough leaving VP users stuck with lousy video. Please don't forget, I'm talking the amount that ISP had to transmit to and from the backbone and a VP may be just one out of hundred thousands.

This concept similar to satellite system, many VP users can not always get better video though satellite, why? It depends on how many people are connecting and transmit though satellite system, the more going though, the backlog increases.

So, lastly if your VRS provider promises you a better video, better be aware of this little scam. No VRS providers can deliver that promise and that is the fact.

Videophone video quality troubleshooting as following. Always start the easiest and most common cause of the problem. This applies with can't making outgoing calls, no calls can be revived and other issues. I'm focus on most common issues here.

First, inspect ALL Ethernet connectors, Physical ports, Ethernet cable itself make sure there is no loosen, damaged of frayed. Why check that part first? It is because Ethernet itself moves and gets interference the most and gets broken easily, thus cheapest n easiest to fix. Often I get customers in the past complaining about video only to find out that their Ethernet connector were half way connected and solved the problem after fully plugged in. Other time, some customers found animals chewing the Ethernet, causing video quality to degraded. Having Ethernet cable running below the doorway is a NO NO NO, under rug is a NO NO NO. Ethernet has 4 pairs of thin wires in it, total of 8 wires in it and they are very thin. The thinner it is, the easier for it to break.

If found nothing wrong with Ethernet, then turn power off on everything that has to do with Internet, including VP, Router, switch, modem, whatever. Turn all of them off and let them cool down at lest 5 minutes. Turn back on, and if there is still issue with Video, call ISP to have outside drop line checked. Call ISP *FIRST* to see if they got issues with the Internet. Do not tell them that you are having issues with Videophone, they know NOTHING and will refer you to VRS companies instead. Just explain to ISP that you are noticing issues with Internet connections and have them check it out.

If fails, call your default VRS provider technical support for any other troubleshooting steps. There are various steps to take, depending on what the problem is. My recommendation really applies to ALL VRS customers that calling VRS technical support for assistance is really the last thing you want to call, not first.

And here is number one myth that I hear pretty much everyday for years that getting faster router will increase ISP speed and improve the video. That is FALSE. Most routers today are already exceeding the speed that ISP provides. Only defective routers may cause problem,.

Where is SmartVP's Specification?
Is it bulti-in Wi-Fi? 802.11ac?

I got an invitation email to try the new SmartVP from Purple. Did an application and now I have to wait for Purple Installer to contact me :) Cant wait!

I just researched about Tely Labs. I found tely labs's website. I saw TelyHD videophone on the website and it is very nice. Is telyHD videophone same to Purple's SmartVP? duno.

snallga, read the link I provided and it says
Purple Communications
Co-developed with Tely Labs and based on its telyHD platform, Purple has created a customized videophone with features and benefits that will change the way deaf and hard-of-hearing people make and receive calls.

You can look at Switched at Birth on March 4th, the end show with Katie (Daphne) shares about Purple on television, you can look at Katie Leclerc: "Purple is always innovating!" - YouTube. You may see top the Tely attach is flasher device.

They are going work together to have Purple customized videophone with features as you saw the tely lab.

That device looks pretty, they said it is excellent with Slype and my VRS service here, uses skype for the VRS services, and I wonder if I could obtain one of them to use at home ...hmmm ;)

Use Wireless Bridge.... I've used that on my Zphone and it works wonderfully. I can relocate my Zphone anywhere up to 50 feet. I use Dlink DAP-1522 Wireless Bridge and rear switch set to Bridge mode (not AP mode). I never had any issue. Any VP would work just fine over Wireless Bridge as long as it's located 25 to 30 feet from Wireless router. It doesn't have signal strength meter on it, you'll have to log in firmware via Browser and check for its signal strength. Been using it for 2 years with no issue so Look Ma' No Ethernet Wires running across room!!!!!
