Protect your kids!!!

I looked up this site not too long ago -- and I found a couple in my hometown...there is one sex offender living on my street!

I am glad they had this up so we can protect our kids and anyone else who is vulerable from sex offenders.

Maybe a majority of these "sexual offenders" have made a mistake and now are paying for it. They have done their time, in jail and such. But because of this registry, they cannot get a good job, they cannot live in peace.

People swear at them. People try to get them out of houses. People try to get them fired.

Is it any wonder some of them don't report their moves?

Yes, people like you, who don't think about the other side of story. Hear me out, now.

Now, *some* of these people do deserve to be on this registry. Ones that are repeat offenders or violent sexual offenders. But what about one time thing?

I knew a guy who was put on a registry SIMPLY because he had been 21, had sex with a girl who had used FAKE ID and told him she was 18 (and she looked it, too), but in reality was 16. SHE got him in jail.

You think it's fair that HE can't keep a good job, can't have nice peaceful life like us all? He's now in his 40's, and still gets yelled at by people for being a sexual offender. ALL because of a snotty little girl who can't be honest about her age. ALL because of a stupid little law about statutory rape.

That court didn't even take in account the fact she used fake id, lied about her age.

I'm just giving a little example of how people can end up on a sexual offender registry and not honestly deserve it. Many of these people are honestly trying to make a good life for themselves in spite of the meanness they face.

Just like we honestly don't deserve being called "Dumb and Deaf".

I hope this post has made you stop and think.

You nailed it perfectly what I want to say but I decided to not say anything about it because I know that some people wouldn't understand. Unlike me... it is very, very brave of you to speak up.

It happened to my friend (in Florida) who is completely innocent in this case. That gal is sick in her brain and she accused my friend because she was rejected by my friend when she wanted to be in sack with him. Actually, my friend found out that she is underage so he told her to go back to her home and it got her angry... so she made up a 'perfect' story by luring him into quiet place right after he was done with his music jig at one of clubs and she chatted with my friend for several minutes. It just hit on my friend that she was looking for trouble so he left without any kind of physical contact. She, of course, called the cops and claimed that she had a sex with my friend (btw, she had a sex with other man before that night). After long hours of court, they sent a innocent man to the jail. One year ago, he got out of the jail and had hard time to get a job or was/still is treated harshly by these people because of falsely 'sex offender' label.

My friend is not only one who suffered by this... There were plenty men/women who are completely innocent and were/are still treated harshly by people in America.

sulwyn, I believe not many people who would give a thought about this case. I would be surprised if there are many people who would. I guess that it is so easy for some people to judge others rather than judge themselves. Anyway, it is very admirable of you to speak up and try to make people to think. Bravo!

Here's a link to a SCARY story that I just found. It's from today's (Sunday) Denver Post. Even scarier, he's probably not the ONLY one who feels this way. Please don't let your kids out of your sight if you can help it.

I don't think every one wants to judge or harshly treat registered sex offenders. I think it is a matter of safety. Parents want to protect their children. Safety for the children is most important.

Yes, the safety of children should be paramount, but don't overdo it so that the children fears every shadow and every person they see.

Teach them how to follow their gut feelings. Take them to self-defense classes, where they learn how to understand how to assess the situation around them, how to protect themselves in bad situations. Teach them common sense! Practice what YOU preach. And they'll likely do what you tell them. :)

Above all: LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN! Pay attention to strange changes in behaviors.

I think we who have a hearing loss need to be even more careful,using our eyes to search for clues to keep us safe.Having pictures of people who have been convicted of hurting people in the past helps us to be that much more safe,especially for our children.
Just an example, last week I was driving home,was stopped at a red light>It was dark out an hard to see behind me. My daughter was with me and we determined that it was someone shooting a gun-it was a drive by shooting in what has been considered in a safe neighborhood. Luckily I was able to drive away safely and call the police.The cops caught the guy who turned out to be a repeat offender.Sorry but noone is gonna get a second chance on my daughter or my own life.Everyone knows the cost of breaking the law and doing their time, including the social stigma after they get out.as far as sex,if people would wait until they are married then the proof of age is in the marraige license. Anyone who chooses to have sex needs to be responsible for themselves-saying they didn't know how old the person was is just the same as saying "Oh they didn't know they could get STD's and therefore not have to take responsible precautions. If you don't want to do time, you take responsible precautions.."Everyone is responsible for their own actions.there are other ways to get proof of age these days and not just rely on an ID.

As a parent I'm responsible to protect my daughter and not give someone a chance to let her be their next victim by just saying- well its ok becasue they did their time. It isn't ok.

I know that feeling.. I am having HARD time leaving my son with someone I don't know, like in school or daycare. It's hard!!
 
81 sex offenders in my zip code, wow! I don't have kids and will move out this summer, anyway .. where it's less numbered for sure. geez!

Thank you Taylor and God Bless... I saved this to my folder of favorites and will send this weblink to my mom. I am an uncle to 10+ kids and I can only pray they will be safe. I keep my eyes on my nephews and nieces whenever I am in town and always take the time to stop and say hi to my nephews and nieces then make sure they really are okay. I found out that I have 4 sex offenders living in my hometown. :barf:

Hi Pomeranian, I tried to look up where I live now in Pennsylvania. Here is what the family watchdog website had to say.

Consequently, we are unable to provide adequate or meaningful information about sex offenders located in these states. We will add functionality that will allow searches by name and city in the future.

We suggest that you contact your state senators and representatives and ask them why you cannot have access to critical information you need to protect your loved ones. Tell them that you want the same registered sex offender location information that is available to your neighbors in surrounding states.

We will continue to monitor these four states. When they begin publicizing offender address information we will provide it to Family Watchdog visitors

Pennyslvania does have a sex offender registry. That is for Pennsylvania residents and summer/winter visitors to Pennsylvania to see at:

I did check Texas and Wow man, I will have to keep this one in my favorites so that if my family visits me during the summer when I live in Texas after I graduate from college. That way my mom and my nephews & nieces will have the same information I have about those sick bastards. It even has a map layout of where the sick bastards are so that is good.

I did check out a similar link. . I'd also warn you if your city has different ways to say it like for example:

Saint/St
Jax/Jacksonville
Pete/Petersburg
Ft/Fort

etc.. I did a search before and strange is i got longer list just by changing the names of the same city because of the different ways to say that city. .

Also I've heard of things like sometimes it is the underage child's parents upset with the child's boyfriend/girlfriend still dating them when should have stopped. . So since they have been with the underage and charges filed against them, they are stuck with the label of being a sex offender for rest of their lives. .

Excellent thread!! :bowdown: There are many sites out there but I would suggest using the site that is associated with your states law enforcemnt. The reason I think those are better is because they also have pictures of these individuals which you can show your children. They also identify "sexual preditors" which is important. Here is a google search link based on sex offenders. You should be able to find your state in that search. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sex+offenders
 
OMG 46 in my area :Ohno: . Thanks for the info. I only have one thing to say anyone who touches my children better give their soul to GOD, there a$$ is mine!!!!!! :Owned: I don't let my kids outside anyways unless I am there, especially my son (who's the deaf one).
