President Obama

I admire the way Obama keeps his cool under fire, and his sense of humor.
Mind you, if he pisses me off I will kick some butt.

Umm, glad we have African-American president?

The color of his skin has nothing to do with his presidency because the Americans have elected him as President in a democratic process.

I think powerON meant that his election shows that there isn't as much opposition to black politicians as liberal critics have stated ten years ago or twenty years ago. Those critics are wrong for thinking that the American people are that shallow.

I admire Pres. Obama's job, even tho, he's intelligent but I know that he is still trying very hard because of American people. Well, it has to do with racist as he thinks. He knows that.

ah yes! we had the biggest voter turnout in the history. That is good. but regarding his Presidency..... can't think of any.....

obviously it's because it's way too early to tell since he's been Prez for only 9 months.

I was quite neutral on George W. Bush for a long time. That's because I like to give Presidents time before I start judging them regardless of my politics.

Speaking of saying good stuff about politicans with political ideologies opposite my own idealogy, I will start with George W. Bush. I haven't said very much in favor of him. Here's a couple of good things that I can say about him: I like how he handled 9/11 and he did increase the security of our country.

I'm still a bit neutral on Obama but from what I can see he's an excellent speaker and he has to be a very talented politician given all the opposition he's facing. He has a tendency to aim very high which is good in a leader our country. I aslo admire Obama's intellect; I'm a hard core intellectual.

I know what many Republicans say about intellectuals but then I should remind them that they need intellectuals on their side to keep them from going stale; William F. Buckley was and is the most obvious example of what I am talking about.

Mod Note:

Allright, let's play nice and keep this thread clean.

Thanks for comments! Interesting posts.

Souggy, ah yes. I remember how so many people were happy when Obama had won the election on November 2008. I like his awesome speech! Do anybody remember his speech when he won? :D
Yes, I remember this speech very clearly, it was right on my T.V with the CC on, it was a good one before the presidency vote. This has encouraged people to think more who would be the best president, at the least, Mr Bush is no longer in the limelight ---> i reckon he has just joined with luke skywalker.

I am not a hard core Obama fan. I just have hope that his plans are going to help. Sometimes it feels like I have to defend him, but I do so only because I feel he deserves respect as President of the USA.

For Bush, I was neutral at first. When he spoke to the nation after 9/11, I was moved and proud to have him as our leader. I really liked his ideas until Iraq. I was very bitter that he chose to go there, and still am bitter.

Obama has been left a huge mess. I do not blame the entirety of it on Bush. I will not give Obama 100% credit for getting us out. I think the situation will improve faster without all the negative crap that has been going on. Negativity breeds more negativity.

I have always have felt that America works best when there is a mix of left and right; not all one sided. Both sides are doing what they think is best. Both sides have good and bad ideas on how to get things done. When one side is in power a long time, things become skewed too much in favor of part of the citizens. That is why I tend to vote for both sides, so that things are balanced.

bipartisan...??

LOL!

As the president, he had told Kyl after the Arizonan raised objections to the notion of a tax credit for people who don't pay income taxes, Obama told Cantor this morning that "on some of these issues we're just going to have ideological differences."

The president added, "I won. So I think on that one, I trump you."
'I Won:' President Obama Works to Be Bipartisan But Shows There Are Clear Limits - Political Punch

*sniff* "I won." So much for humble pie.

Right at the beginning we knew he wasn't about to be bipartisan or at least listen to the other side. And it's been going downhill ever since.

Given the fact that he hasn't even been in office for a year yet, institution of his proposed policies have not had sufficient time to determine if he is "fulfilling his campaign promises" or not. However, he manages to maintain grace and dignity despite some of the disrespectful, bigoted, and hateful behavior he has been subjected to via the fringe minority. He is obviously grounded and clear headed. He is capable of seeing the bigger picture, and has shown he has a grasp of interconnectedness of action and consequence beyond the obvious. He is not afraid to appear human. He is well spoken, which is a wonderful change of pace after seeing Bush murder the English language for 8 years. He is openly devoted and affectionate toward his family.

Some people just have no patience at all. Certainly not Obama's fault there.

People need to learn how to chill out and give things time.

I agree, the key to this is balance, balance, balance. When it gets skewed - certainly, we all know that screams ugliness.

About this stance, I am pretty much neutral. I at first thought Obama was doing good with the closing of Guantanamo Bay and he did a lot in his first 90 days as a president. However, as of now -- I'm still somewhat skeptical. It's not because of Obama's performance but because of how both parties are not seeing things eye to eye. It's got to the point where one had to jump out and say "You lie!". To me, that is ridiculous.

My question is - Why can't they say "Ok, Mr President; We may not agree but we would like to work it out with you."? Unfortunately, sometime as skewed as it is, that is what happens when the life of politics becomes a travesty.

I'm not giving Obama all the credits but I have to praise him for being able to be willing to step in, at least to try to straighten up some things that were left off from these previous presidents. I don't think a lot of others would want to take a huge responsibility like this one.

Kokonut, start a new thread.

You told Karissa to start a new thread, so you should take your own advice as well.

"We" knew? You have a mouse in your pocket? He has attempted bipartisanship. He is being blocked by the most partisan party this country has ever seen.:cool2: Then they want to turn around and accuse him of partisan politics, when in reality, they are doing any and everything possible to create a self fulfilling prophecy.

Ha ha.....oh I hated that term 'grow the country' grow business....rather than increase business activity etc.....
He started that term and everytime I hear it I cringe.

New... thread....

Agreed, saywhatkid and Jolie. Balance is the key. It would seem that the problem with achieving balance at this particular time is that the Republican party became overly confortable and confident in their position over the last 8 years. When the American people turned out in droves and elected by a landslide a Dem, the Republican party got a rude awakening, and their comfort level was shaken terribly. They are striving to get back their power and influence, and are coming across as poor loosers. It is difficult to achieve any level of balance when one side is unwilling to compromise.

However, Obama continues to stress bipartisanship, which indicates a willingness on his part. He has only resorted to partisan politics when the opposition has forced his hand. I admire him for his spirit of compromise, and for his resolve when he is forced into a corner.

yep...me too...I am very middle of the road....very centrist democrat. Although I tend to vote democrat I try to find value from both sides......common sense says that is howwe will find the best answers.
Years ago in a political science class at college the instructor talked about the US system is the longest continuosly running government in history by far. And that was 26 years and we are still functioning. Something to be proud of. Our system. So...it is the give and take and back and forth of power which makes our government so succesful.
Those who lose track of this lose respect for the other party and our governments success.
I noticed someone seems incapable of making a positive statement.
Obama??...well I think so far we have avoided a Great Depression.
I want to see banking regulationsand wallstreet regulations.
Have to admit Obama is trying to do some of the things he promised to work on....Iraq exit ...switch to Afghanistan...health care.
