Premature baby not allowed to live under G.B. nationalized health care plan

Shouldn't this thread be moved to War and Political news?

That's exactly what I thought. What's it doing here in General Chat?

There have been documented cases of babies surviving under 23 weeks. But we two examples here. One in Florida had doctors who worked to help a preemie of 21 weeks and 6 days old survive. But in G.B. the scenario is pretty much the same age of the baby under 22 weeks old but the doctors rationed the money instead of saving the baby. I don't know all the medical details on that other than the doctor didn't do it.

So you don't know the whole story. There was probably a reason why they made the decision they made.

She said he was breathing unaided, had a strong heartbeat and was even moving his arms and legs, but medics refused to admit him to a special care baby unit
She said: 'When he was born, he put out his arms and legs and pushed himself over.

A midwife said he was breathing and had a strong heartbeat, and described him as a "little fighter".

I kept asking for the doctors but the midwife said, "They won't come and help, sweetie. Make the best of the time you have with him".'

She cuddled her child and took precious photos of him, but he died in her arms less than two hours after his birth.

Miss Capewell, who has a five-year-old daughter Jodie, went into labour in October last year at 21 weeks and four days after suffering problems during her pregnancy.
She said she was told that because she had not reached 22 weeks, she was not allowed injections to try to stop the labour, or a steroid injection to help to strengthen her baby's lungs.

Instead, doctors told her to treat the labour as a miscarriage, not a birth, and to expect her baby to be born with serious deformities or even to be still-born.

Premature baby 'left to die' by doctors after mother gives birth just two days before 22-week care limit | Mail Online

Sounds like the baby came out fine only too early. Did you even read the article? Sounds like the baby was murdered on purpose by doctors who refused medical help. The baby was breathing on his own...just barely. Was never give a chance at anything.

Typical bastards.

Sounds like nothing of the kind. If the baby was fine, it would not have died 2 hours after birth. You have no idea what kind of medical complications this fetus suffered. The baby was not murdered. It died as the result of complications from a severely premature birth. Even you admit that it was just barely breathing. How could you possibly know whether any efforts made would have been successful. When you get your medical degree, you will be capable of making those judgements and decisions. Until then, stop trying to maipulate and play on people's sympathy with an issue that you don't even have any real concern for. Shameful of you to politicize the issue.

The Daily Mail reported that a woman in Great Britain was told it was against the rules under their nationalized health care plan to save her premature baby. Her baby was left to die.

It isn't the whole truth. One sided anecdote.

No baby born at 22 weeks is "just fine". Have you seen the long term stats on babies born earlier? Almost ALL have serious long term debilatating health issues.

 Well, of course! Right wingers must be dismissed as lairs, only you must trust liberal side cos it is only one truth!

If you tell people that you regret your choice on abortion, they would call you a lair. They would think you need a help or be throw in a mental hospital.

If you give a birth to premature baby at hospital, and he/she died, people will dismiss your story as a myth.

If you are an abortion survivor, too bad, they will dismiss you as an attention seeker, a lair, and they would snarl at you that abortion survivors don't exist.

If you are a child of rapist, they definitely will be disappointed that you are not aborted.

Come on, right wingers must to be dismissed, and they must to trust liberals. Only one way!

Yeah... that explains everything. ;)

Anyway... I feel sad for this mother that she wanted her baby alive... damn political correctness. >:/

What does this have to do with conservatives vs. liberals?

I understand this mother wanted her baby alive. But instead of making the doctors look like villains, why not go to a grieving support group or something?

Of course this mother wanted a live baby. To use her grief as a way to politicize the issue is shameful.

Fact, this woman had already suffered 5 miscarraiges. The chances of her giving birth to a live baby went down with each one. She suffered several complications during the time that she was carrrying the fetus. The chances that she would give birth to a live infant went down with each complication. It is regrettable that she suffered so many miscarraiges and complications, and has had such a hard time giving birth to a live infant. But it is a medical issue, not a political one.

I was wondering the same thing.

I feel bad for the mother. Given the info in this thread, I doubt they could have saved the baby. :(

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying I doubt there was anything that anyone could have possibly done to save the child.

What do you think is the survival rate of a 23 week baby? Complication rate?

http://fn.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/94/3/F158

Looks like at 23 weeks it was less than 2%, and she wasn't even that far along. Every single day matters when a baby is that early.

Well, you said this link is a lie cos of what you said so.

Basically, what I hear... all the right is always regarded as a myth side, and all the left is always regarded as a truth side. So, you said this link is not a whole truth.

No one said this link is a lie. What we are all saying is that it is anecdote from a grieving mother. There is no medical fact to support any of the allegations being made. And this was posted to try and create political support, not because the OP had any sympathy whatsoever for this grieving mother.

KarissaMann05, it's because anyone with any medical knowledge sees that the article is obviously one-sided. It's not about the right and left. It's about the fact they gave her birth and death certificates together. There was obviously a reason for it.

Okay. Sorry, I disagree.

On the another subject -

I think doctors should save premature babies, whenever it seems hopeless or not. I'm not surprise that people with no hope are so easy to give up on premature babies... Her baby breath for less than two hours, like what I read an another similar story. But the story told little girl survived with the help. I wonder, what is wrong with this picture? Sure, I could give you a link but I knew it is easy for you to dismiss it, anyway. :|

I'm actually interested in it. Can you provide a link? :ty:

It should be in current section (politic & war) or on-topic debate section.
