Post Office to temporarily increase stamp prices

Nope, and that bank is virtually everywhere. Yes, my bank has at least a branch in every states.

Sounds like you are a Chase customer? Because that's what I use to pay my bills, and it not only saves me time, but I can set up the payments in advance so I don't have to deal with last-minute stress.

Every state is not much help for in person service! For example: in this thread markengland29 and I are both in Illinois but a good four/five hours away for each other when driving.

I'm in Chicago area just minutes away from Mark.

My Grandma is getting up in age now. Therefore, it's hard for her to write letters and mail them out. I imagine that is the case with a lot of people. Not enough younger generation of people take time to stamp and mail them out.

Privatize the postal service. Get rid of the postal union. Problem solved.

Or just stop mailing stuff.

Just like Reba, I still send out Christmas, Birthday, Get Well etc. I like receiving them too. I don't send a ton of cards, just close family and friends. I had a couple friends who posted Christmas cards on FaceBook, just not the same.

My adult children still mail thank-you cards.

I don't think you should worry - only small groups want USPS to be disband, or privatize USPS and kill the postal unions. I think unions are protected under the constitution so it means government can't kill the unions, but private companies could if they want too.

I think your job will safe and USPS don't lay any disabled employees off, so it means hearing employees are more likely to lay off than deaf employees, especially you.

It is fun to mess with you over anti-USPS so I'm not serious.

Not sure if you aware or not, but during Ronald Regan presidency...in 1981, he fired 11,000 air traffic controllers and shut down PATCO unions. So anything can happen and governments can kill unions.

It's illegal to lay off career employees (hearing or deaf) while they hire new employees with less pay ($12-15/hr) called PSE, Postal Support Employee who works flexible hours. In case USPS need to lay off people, they must lay off new hires, not career employees because they are protected. Really, you know nothing because you don't work for USPS. There are two different groups of career employees, CSRS and FERS. Do you know what they are?

The same with UPS, they lay off starting with lowest seniority people if there is not enough volumes. The same to the drivers if laid off, they bump the lowest seniority hourly (part time employees) force to lay off and work both shifts to be guaranteed 8 hours (Drivers are full timer).

Because they were on strike illegally (a violation of union contract). Postal unions can't strike as per contract.

Yes, so technically governments can kill unions if they break a law. PATCO broke a law that they can not strike with Air Traffic Controllers and several lost the jobs and became blacklisted to work for federal, it took Clinton to lift that and some got rehired.

The government could kill the unions if they are bad unions, so PATCO involved illegal striking, that why.

Yes, but the congress could change the law and force USPS to lay employees off.

It is very unlikely during Obama's term - Jan 20, 2009 to Jan 20, 2017, even deadlocked congress make impossible to fix the USPS - too political to fix.

Bad unions as in illegal activity such as illegal strike... but then there is always dirty, corrupted unions out there. Think you could trust any unions out there today?

Anything can happen, all we can do is wait and see. They could do something tomorrow, 6 months or a year or 2016.... it's only a matter of time if someone comes up with the idea.

The unions could shut down or decertified/disband if they break any laws, so for corruption, it means federal authorities need to involve and investigate, just like corrupted corporation or corrupted local government, so in some cases, they can be very hard to prove.

I don't know so much about unions, but my grandma is retired union employee at at&t, right after at&t breakup in 80s and she said that union was great, so made her to have a middle class lifestyle and she collect pension from at&t as well. My grandpa was union worker at Goodyear but he quitted the union after didn't agree with new union contract. There are good and bad unions, so just like good and bad corporations.

I prefer to have my choice to join or not - right to work.

They may have good unions back then and had good contract.. old time had great, stronger unions. Now contracts changed and weakened unions with greeds. If there is corrupted business agents or secretary, the members have the options to vote them out and change their local unions.

I think people have their rights to work as they should not be forced into unions they don't agree with. They could withdraw unions in writing and not having to pay monthly dues.
