The clerks and mailhandlers are very busy to operate the machines and sort the mails for 8-12 hrs per day. Some of them don't take their breaks on time (hold breaks until the end of the tour). In other words, if the numbers of clerks and mailhandlers are reduced, you would get your mail/packages at least three days late. Guaranteed! PMG knows since he always thanks us for hard work.

As for consolidations, that's understandable because of high utility bills, I think it costs one plant $25k/month for electric bill. However, some workers complain about the closing because they don't want to work in LA.

USPS is an independent government agency (also called a semi-government agency) which means it's allowed to make a profit. It did make profits many years before. Those profits went to new office furnitures (luxury ones) and bonuses for managers.

I did figure there are tons of deadbeats sleeping around, collecting paychecks. it would be in your best interest to inform people about these deadbeats as well as to suggest solutions because this is a very serious situation where thousands of people can lose their jobs including yours sooner or later.

it amazes me how they can still spend money doing that when USPS hasn't been receiving profits for a long while now. no wonder USPS is nearing its max credit limit.

Why do they need a full time maintenance crew? Can they hire independent contractor to save money?
Although, I can see that being a problem related to mail privacy and security.

I think the carrier, clerks, drivers, sorters do 90% of the everyday job in USPS operations. There only seems to be 1 branch manager assigned per each office from what I notice. Do they have more managers?

In stations, there are much fewer people working there because the buildings are small while the plants are very big. I would say there are about 10 supervisors, one manager and one assistant manager in my plant during Tour 1. One is in parcel area, one in automation flats, one in dock area, three in automation letters, one in manual letters/flats (non-machinable), one in incoming mail area, two in maint dept. There are about 50 machines all over on the workfloor.
 
Exactly, we do not use human to stuff envelopes anymore, machines does that dirty work and it cost the owners pennies a year. Machines is really taking over many labors nowadays. Inevitable, but that is true and again point to why.... $80K/year per person or hundreds dollars per year for a machine that can do 100 times faster than any human can... no brainer for business owners but bad news for workers.

Who run the machines? Who enter data into the computers? Who feed/load mails into the machines? Who take jammed mails out of the machines? Who sweep the mails from the machines? You don't know what techs mean. Technicians are paid to fix the machines and the clerks are paid to run the machines. Why don't you join elementary school kids for a tour?

Umm, you asked who would fix the machines, enter data etc. You could always hire college kids to feed the machines. That is what UPS does. And they make a profit.

No, that's the clerk's job to pull them out. If it's still stuck, the clerk calls ET to remove the belt(s), take the mails out and replace the belt(s). That's all. The clerks are not allowed to remove the belts. Most of the times, the jammed mails are not stuck. You still don't know wtf you are talking about until you see it yourself. That's why many ETs are sitting around almost all night.
