Pit Bulls

I have met many sweetheart pitbull, but you guys need to stop being close minded toward to dog's hardwired behavior seriously.

I suggest that you guys need to stop being close-minded thinking about breed's stereotypical characteristics. ALL dogs are SAME in terms of behaviors. ALL dogs need 3 simple things as Cesar Millan said - Exercise and Discipline and Affection..... in those exact order.

My friend is deaf and he owns a pitbull that was owned by another deaf friend. Both have been very good with her. She is a very well behaved dog. She has been too rough with cats in the past but otherwise, is usually very easy-going.

Close-minded??

I hear the every same words "every breeds attacks they all have the same terms of behaviors" You all are missing the point on how many dog cases of attacks world wide? You let this falls on deaf ears. People like you who would take such a risk and ignore all the facts could care less about children. Protecting pitbulls that cause so much damaged on children's even had to pay a price by being ripped to shreds from pitbulls. Yet, you're standing here protecting pitbulls? What about those poor children? Those dogs are walking time bombs, weather you want to believe it or not, because I do. They have solid muscles would take chunks out of children. I think some people here can be so insane for protecting those pitbulls after numberic of cases of attacked they're done with the reputation of being deadly, one case after the next after the next. I remembered the story about the 22 months old baby who was killed by four pitbulls, If you think about it, I would not have a problem leaving a 1-year-old with four kittens, because kittens do not rip a child's throat the way four pitbulls would.

I said pretty much all I wanted to say, I'm not coming back and keep debating about pitbulls to prove my point. :)

PIT BULL SO CHAMP! which i have owner, pit bull x mix! information, pit bull is not dangerous or monster, what do you think is. I believe in, Pit bull is not attacked to people, because pit bull have power to smell new blood from who is stranger, but a someone with pit bull, it will be fine, even same time a stranger want to taming them, then no problem. but You need to know, if u want one pit bull, then you need to make sure 9 to 10 size fence, because pit bull have strong high jump, no offense. And need to leashes, all the time, but if u want pit bull in ur house, it will be fine.

a people training to pit bull for fight or friendly, what is different, even i am been training to my pit bull as puppy, they are so understand what i am say to. information pit bull are the best, i have ever been in my life. if u think pit bull is dangerous, which mean you never have experience with own pit bull.PERIOD!

And i like to post this my picture of my puppy.

1. this applies to any breeds
2. judge the owner, not dog. bad/lousy/irresponsible owner = bad dog
3. if your child was grabby and rough.... and then got bitten - then it's your fault as the parent for failure of proper supervision. not dog
4. kittens can scratch and permanently damage 1 year old's eye... again - if this happens - your fault as the parent for failure of proper supervision. not kittens
5. all of these terrible incidents can be avoided if the parents have any OUNCE of common sense not to place their child next to animals (yes ANY animals... even a red-eared slider turtle - btw... trust me.. you do not want to get bitten by a turtle. it was a painful experience)

Jillio an Jiro:

I actually think you're both right! In some cases, it is the breed and in others, it's the owners. Any animal is capable of becoming predatory; especially dogs. It doesn't matter if it's a pitbull or a cute little yorkie. Ofc, a person has more to fear from the pitbull. I also think that people have bred pit bulls to be even more predatory. You take an already aggressive animal and train it to kill, and you've got serious issues with that animal.

yes... true.... sadly true.... it's mainly the size and look that intimidate the people.... and sadly the pitbull depicts that exact image. However - there are several other breeds that are a bigger, "meanie-looking" one such as Rottweiler, German Shepherd, and Doberman. Those breeds are lot bigger than Pitbulls. I blame the media for blowing this out of proportion. They pulled same crap for sharks which led to decline of shark population.

I see your point. And, here's a case for the "blame the owner" theory. My sister and brother-in-law own a rottie. The dog was frightening to me at first. I sit in the wheelchair a good bit of the time, so ANY dog that jumps up on me WILL scare me. Anyway, they told me I had nothing to fear from the dog. I gave my sister a "Yeah, sure. Right..." look, but it turned out to be true. They had their rottweiler trained by an expert and this dog is the sweetest I have ever come across. He's very well behaved and obeys commands. They also had the dog neutered, which I'm sure helped to make him less aggressive. I won't ever let my gaurd down completely, but I can honestly say they've done right by this particular dog.

exactly. ALWAYS keep your guard up at all time! No matter how cute and well-behaved he is. That's PRECISELY why the kids get bitten. It's like this - a responsible gun owner ALWAYS ALWAYS assume the gun is LOADED even though it has NO bullet and NO magazine and double-checked. But no... ALWAYS treat it as loaded gun at ALL time. Same principle applies for ANY animals and even people. I don't mean to say be paranoid all the time but just be smart and responsible! :cool2:

I can imagine how you feel looking at the powerful muscle that has gotten so much attention. Before it was the Dobermans, the Rotweillers and before that the wolves in many places in this country.

Look at it from different perspective:

Why do you assume that its the pit bull breed that bite the most nothing about other breeds?

What about that small tiny lap dog that bit everyone in the ankles and no one has reported it due to it not being "serious" (I was bit in the face by a cocker spainel) *those stats are never reported and vets do feel that theres so much more thats not reported every year

What about that German Shepherd dog that was trained to attack or catch those criminals or protect its property. *did that count in the bite stats?

What about the family Lab that bit the kid accidently in the arm grabbing for the frisbee or the ball in its hands? *did they include that in the stats?

Yes I do agree with you in some ways about the pit bull as I have come across some that are not friendly and others that's so friendly. However its the same with every single breed I have crossed paths with. I know some labs thats so mean and I know a majority of them that wouldn't even hurt anybody. I know some GSD that wouldn't even look back once they see their owner in threat and attack the other person, as well knowing some that's social butterflies.

I know of certain breeds that are MORE deadlier than the Pit Bulls and can outmatch them in a fair fight. I see people experimenting right now to get away with specific breed bans (pits are banned in some parts of my state)

I am a supporter of putting down any dog that is a threat to the society if it gets away from its owner it has already proven once that the owner was careless. I'm more sick and tired of seeing loose dogs killing/attacking people/ other pets/ wildlife because their owners were irresponsible. I do support PUTTING down unclaimed PITBULLS due to the fact that there ARE too many of those right now in the United States in my opinion and the risks are too great in this time and age. I believe people just get those breed for the status and have no time or the ability to take care of their needs which means excerise, excerise and excerise. Many people just keep them in the yards which is not enough in my opinion especially in the city. I have never seen a reason why people would keep them or any other large breed in the city with those tiny yards. Hey this goes for the labs and the goldens too!

We have too many nice/friendly dogs out there in the shelters that are being put down because there are no more room or just because they had behavior issues due to NOT getting the appropriate excerise!

Please just think about not just accusing just the pitbull breed alone voice your concerns by the dangerous dog in your neighborhood regardless of its breed, there are many mean dogs out there that people need to focus on their owners and putting down mean dogs due to its proven threat to the society and environment as a whole. Irresponsible owners have been proven that they cannot take care of dogs or keep them under control if they get away. I'm sorry but what excuse do you have if your poodle breaks the fence because you were "inside" or "at work" and destroys the neighbor's cat. (just an classic example) it still is the owner's sole responsiblity to have it contained in its property at all times. If everyone was aware of the TRUE responsiblity of owning anything that can think for itself, a ball of muscles and teeth then there would be less dogs and cats and exotics running loose.

Cheers

:werd: :gpost:

We have a pair of male Tebetan Terriers. Supposed to be "people" dogs. For the most part, my dogs are very friendly. However, I have seen my one dog bare his teeth once and it frightened me. So, yeah, Jiro. I hear you. I would never just assume any dog is friendly 100% of the time. Not even my own.

Personally, I believe that some dogs (such as pit pulls) are prone to violence due to breeding. HOWEVER, I also believe that this can be overcome by training (unless the pit pull has already endured years of dog fighting, then its almost impossible or would require a LONG time of training). I would put down dogs who have been aggressive due to dogfighting, but NEVER just because they are a specific breed. My hometown, Miami, bans all pit bulls, and puts down any unclaimed pit bull.

I want to ask everyone this question. A lot of people here don't like pit bulls, does this mean you actually want to wipe them out as a breed? Since some of you also said that that it does not have to do anything with irresponsible owners. So what other option is there?

P.S. I've actually been "attacked" by my dad's chihuahua. He was playing with me and fake biting my face, and his surprisingly sharp fang hit a blood vessel near my eye and I didn't stop bleeding for an hour!!!! DANGEROUS MOFO's!!!!

Watched the Animal show on TV last week and learned lot more about pit bulls themselves and realized more it has to be done by owners themselves, not the pit bull dogs. It was so informative and good show.

Even they showed few abused pit bulls from M. Vick that was then shipped to Californian couple and they are all right. Amazing!

They and other experts claimed that they are great dogs despite the myths we keep hearing otherwise. hmm It certainly changed my thinking.

Yet I was correct and still stand by my opinion that the owners should be licensed to own them pit bull dogs. I predict it will become as a law one day.

I'm sure if you have a large fenced-in yard and no kids, a pit bull might seem like an ideal pet.

And to retract what I said about dogs, I don't really hate them but I don't understand why my friend's dog snarled at me. She has been good to me in the past.

I personally wouldn't mind owning a Husky or Golden Retriever someday.
