Pipes in Chicago are frozen, and service waiting time is excessive

Our house doesn't have those, either.

Then.

Usually water meters are outside on the side of the house. They are usually under a glass, round perhaps. We used to have a meter guy come every so often to check the meters. I used to watch him jump over fences. This was over 30 years ago. I wonder if they still do that.

No they now do it electronically walk by front of sidewalk with meter n zap at it not need to see it, once in a while they will physically check to sure it matches up. I think nowadays it can be done by car

Yes I'm finding that out now. It's new to me. Times sure have changed and so as the method. It's alot safer that way with all this craziness going on than what they did 30 years ago.

Places in MI have been mandated, I think, to keep their water running. But I think I also read that they will not be charged for it though I don't recall how they proposed to do that. Perhaps a % off their water bills for this time period.

Sent from my iPhone using AllDeaf

Yeah some towns did have water running order in all households n say no charge for water cuz cost of pipe fix vs water running is better my moms house is in mi and it was under order for few days this winter
:eek3:

Yeah grew up in Chicagoland area myself know what meterman always had to go to our door n ask to remove dog from water meter lol poor young men having to deal with dogs

You know what? I think there is one near city sidewalks, just a few feet west of here. I thought it was a gas main, but apparently not, cause they were replacing gas pipes here in the area a couple years ago.

Umm no. Don't matter how old house was and easy to add water meter for ANY old water system. They use water meter electronic.

See post 14....

There has to be one. There has to be a way to measure water. I grew up in Chicago and the house was over 50 years old too and we had one.

Yeah , the city does not give you anything for free. It cost money to run the water treatment and sewage system . I know some cities have a way to read the meters just by driving by the houses and building. We have houses in my cities that were build over a 100 years ago and they have water meter. I owned two houses that where build in the 1800's and they water meters.

I worked tap and meter at water division, meters can be located in the street for businesses as well as inside, in the front lawns, in the basements.
Here in st. louis city we dont have meters, its a flat rate of $33 a month. Out here in Festus we pay for how much we use. It can vary from $75 to hundreds (so we dont water the yards) in the city you can leave the water on 24/7 and still pay $33. Out here if you leave the water on you better take out your life savings.

You should ride along for a water shut off in a Gang area... yeah its fun.
We would go late at night , do a drive by, no one out or awake, jump out...shut it off, jump in and away we go ( if we didnt get a cap popped in our asses) no fun at all

That's likely, but I have a list of things I pay for, and water, gas, and electricity isn't part of my rent. If they were, good chance I'd be paying a lot more.

You means that water, gas and electricity isn't included in rent? Yes or No

Now that I can answer. The answer to that is no.

then that means water, electricity and gas are included in your rent.

Section 8 and HUD - all utilities included in rent, except for telephone, cable TV and internet.

That actually makes sense. As for cell phone, Internet, and cable, two of the three I am responsible for, but the third (Internet) is a split-- two housemates and myself all pay our own Internet, while they pay for the Comcast Business Class modem on the 2nd Floor.

When I was looking for places to rent, I always were asking if utilities are included and which were not. I prefer to pay ONE bill the rent. Lol some places are cool now including internet and comcast around here.

Now parking in the city. UGH thats one thing I hate about this city.

HUD? Oh maybe that is why they either don't have meter, and have some political relationship with water authority, don't forget it is government agency to government agency.

Remember, I live in HUD housing, so no, I don't think so, but not quite certain, though.

That was my thought, too, but wasn't quite sure if that would fly.

No always true, My 1st wife was on section 8 when I met her and she had to pay all utilities. She didnt have to pay rent (that was paid by uncle sam)
