Phonak Naida V UP update
Hi!
Went to the audiologist for adjustments to get rid of that hollow/echo-y/compressed speech sounds in both calm situations and speech-in-noise situations. When the audiologist attached the hearing aid to the computer, she asked if I was hearing any differences. I kept responding negatively. She finally said it was time to call in a Phonak rep so that's our next step! When that will happen, I don't know. However, when the aid was put back into my ear the feedback and the volume was wayyyyy to loud and the hollow-y quality was much worse. She realized after about 45 minutes of trying to work with the software that the cable wasn't effectively attached to my hearing aid w/ the software!! Ugh . . what a waste of time. However, we both felt that it still would be best to have the Phonak rep. come into the office to see if optimal adjustments can be made to fit my needs.
I was given the I-Com today to play with and I have only made one 5 minute call to my Dad. It seems to work VERY well. However, I still can hear those hollow/echo-y/compressed sounds. If those qualities could be eliminated, I think I'd be sold w/ the Phonak along w/ the I-Com.
I did find it interesting when the audiologist mentioned with complete confidence, "I can definitely work with Siemen's software and program the hearing aid comparable to the analog!" That might be the next step if the Phonak Naida's aren't up to my standards. I'm still having difficulty believing that the Phonak software isn't programmable to make it comparable to my old analog (and more) especially when I have 1 year old analog Phonak aids!
The other issue I had difficulty was when I mentioned that I am not always able to hear my husband calling me when he's only 4 feet away. He's not yelling or anything but with my analogs, I was able to hear him immediately.
The audiologist confirmed that she couldn't increase soft sounds (i.e. my husband's low voice) without decreasing the higher frequencies. That is what Phonak's software's issues include. It is a compression issue and the lack of number of channels available make it difficult to maneuver the fine tunes within the software." The brightness/clarity is lacking and that's what I am looking for.
I realize some of my posts might be redundant. However, I wanted to put out the latest update. Feedback from Naida users (esp. Leo! ) are welcome!
Leo, I realize you mentioned that I could PM you. I'm embarrassed to say but I am not sure how to PM? So, I'm just posting my responses in general in hopes you'll respond. I also did some searching w/ the website you mentioned and didn't find much too much help there. Maybe I missed something? I keep forgetting to ask the audiologist for a print out of the software's chart but, she does have it saved. I normally follow things through but, this time I really have no excuse for not doing so.
Thanks!
