Petition: Please shorten a ban

yes but major difference is - counselors are trained NOT to let their emotions to take over their objectivity. I recognize the fact that Jillio is the valuable and major contributor to AD but the fact remains that she still haven't been able to show a restraint in herself from enticing/provoking/sarcasm especially after several warnings and few bans. I'm also guilty of it but I know when to stop. That's why I'm disappointed in her. So no I will not sign the petition. She broke the rule and she must pay for it. I have to do same as well. simple as that. Of course... I understand that the rules & punishment can be bended/overlooked. If Alex/mods shortened it, cool... If not... oh well.

IMO - a couple weeks will do for her... A month is too long and I need somebody opposite of me to bicker with. :mad2:

Again, Jillio is a member of AD Forum, not counselor.

Jillio responsed ADers´ posts as a cousnellor voluntarily to any specific threads where some ADers ask for feedback, advice, etc.

its interesting that i learn more each of you about the rules. it does not matter if the banning issue won't change anything. i can live with the rules now.

My point in this is not playing favorites!!

If a debate was between two individuals.... And the parties were not complaining about each other to the mods. It obviously shows they enjoy debating with each other.

Yes, I second that.

I am late in this thread as I have been busy lately, but I would very much like to see Jillio come back now, instead of just shortening the ban.

I do not know exactly what happened, but I have been feeling lately that there is a lack of freedom of speech on this forum.

I ask the mods to please reinstate Jillio immediately, (this request may be moot, but it's worth a try) as I agree with SOB. Jillio is a very intelligent person who has a lot of opinions about a lot of things, and I believe she should have the right to express her opinion about anything. I find a lot of what she says to be very useful and very good information and very significant.

I believe we should have the right to freedom of speech and to express our opinions about everything. :2c:

I agree to a certain point. But if two parties are engaging in a political debate. It is between them. Neither of them reported each other to a moderator. Unless someone else...felt the need to report it.... Just to see what would happen. Perhaps??

Then what was the purpose?? They were debating. If some felt it gotten out of hand. A simple "cool it down" by the mods would have been a warning. I have seen it done in many threads. But not this thread. No warning. Just banned.

I have seen a couple of people that were banned in the past come right back on this forum and started at it again. They are still here. With out another ban. :hmm: Seems they had plenty of warnings to cool it in the threads.

Makes one wonder how the choices are made.

I feel that Jillio past bans, have made the choice too easy for the mods to ban her again.

I am not trying to provoke anyone. I am just speaking how I am observing this.

I do not make waves often. But I do have to wonder. :2c:

I agree. This is a forum, not a therapist's office.

And I think she has the right to give feedback and advice and whatnot if someone asks for it. She gives very good feedback and very good advice.

Perhaps, and perhaps not.

We are all expressing our views about this issue.

Could it be that the thread is thriving for others to learn from this?

ADers and Moderators can learn a lot by listening to what people have to say.

:)

That is why I applaud to whomever unlocked this thread. :)

I agree, Babyblue. No harm in discussing this topic. If truth be told, I'm curious to know how other ADers feel.

Yes I applaud the thread creator for create the thread here.

There was one instance where Jillio helped me when I really needed it (sorry, I'd rather not disclose the details). For that, I'm very thankful. I agree with Lucia that Jillio has alot of valuable things to say. Speaking for myself, Jillio is sorely missed.

people keep confusing that Amendment 1 applies to everything. NO IT DOESN'T!!!! Amendment 1 gives protection to CITIZENS from government... but not private entities - they can regulate the form of "freedom of speech" in any way they want. For example - citizens can talk about religion in any way they want but AD forbids it.

Again - there's a rule and Jillio has broken it again and again and again. simple as that. if you really value her opinions on many things - then be her friend and stop her from getting banned.

I think one way to solve this is to allow bans to be 'worked off'.

In this case Jillio was issued a 30-day ban by the Administrator and Moderators who I am sure conferred with one another on the issue.

Jillio could 'work off' a ban if she remains warning and/or ban free for at least 1 year. After that one year, her first offense would be knocked off. However if she were to be banned again within a year she would be on permaban and if she wanted to rejoin with AD then she would need to contact Alex via email and begin an appeal process, and possibly have her removed from permaban after 6 months to a year if Alex feels that she would no longer be a disturbance to other members.

Not saying I don't like Jillio because I do (and I like to think that I get on well with everyone here and Im sure there are some here that don't like me, and that's OK), but just using Jillio as an example of how someone could work off bans and help themselves keep from getting permabans without playing favoritism.

On the first ban, to keep from going to the next level you would need to be warning and/or ban free for 6 months.

On the second ban, you need to be ban free for at least 9 months.

And so forth, just add an additional 30-day ban free work off period to go down a notch on the amount of bans on your record.

This is fair and allows members to redeem themselves.

Anyone like this or have something to add to it??

I like it in theory, but I think the working off period might need to be a little shorter in Jillio's case. ;)

I am of the opinion that the good she does outweighs any harm from an inability to shut up.

I really feel she does a tremendous amount of good.

Dixie,
Depend on situation either Alex can give ADer 2nd chance after permaban or not like what he did with some ADers in the past.

Jillio does have a lot of valuable things to say, but that's not what got her banned...I don't mind the ban periods (although 1 month does seem too long), I only question what exactly got her banned, but I guess this is where we have to trust (or question?) the mods' judgment.

I think people are worried that she WILL be banned again (which I think we all know probably will happen eventually...judging on how many times shes been banned) meaning she will be perma-banned next time, and they don't want to see her go since she brings valuable information and people go to her for help quite often.

then help her NOT to get banned again. simple as that. tell her to STFU and stay away from political thread or whatever you gotta do to prevent her from being banned again.

You didn't sugarcoat that statement at all, did you?

:gpost: Bott. I couldn't agree more.

Ummm, I seem to remember a certain ADer being banned very recently for flaming another member. No offense, but I think the same could be said for you. :)
