However, sin does have consequences. If a nation's leadership is greedy and corrupt, generation after generation, and its society follows ungodly practices, then the results can be a weak infrastructure, disease, poverty, bribed building inspectors, etc. These are the things that can destroy a society.
I agree that "sins" have consequences but I wouldn't say that earthquake is one of them. Earthquake alone is rarely dangerous. It's the poor building structure that caused many deaths. Remember the SF quake a decade ago? SF is one big sinful city because of its gay population and lots of immigrants with their own religions yet despite the same magnitude, only 64 people died.
Also, remember, Haitians were slaves and our "white" sins (owning them as properties, abusing them, breaking their families apart) have caused serious moral and political damages for future generations.
