Oreos Addictive as Cocaine

Honestly I'm not a baker but for anyone who would like to bake, I've read about some other alternative sweeteners for baking
Technique: How I Replace White Sugar

...as an idea-

I've tried many desserts made with raw/vegan/natural sugar alternatives and generally like them very much.

Sugar is sugar no matter what it come from. My older sister made some homemade ice-cream with a natural sweeter and I did not feel good after eating. I AM NOT diabetic , I just had a blood test .

Sugar is sugar - to a point. Certain natural and un-refined sugars do not cause as much inflammation and sugar "spike" as others do.

Oreos have to be double stuf or no dice. I don't unscrew them, lick them or dunk them in my milk either (because you get crumbs floating in your milk, yuckkk).

Friend sent me a pic of triple-decker Oreos she found, these ones:

It also looks like they did limited edition triple stuf cookies... never had one.

what is that red creame? cant be mint too? :ugh:

I think she's referring towards fruit ect ect. Fruit tastes good, and everyone thinks it's good for you because it's fruit..... but really it's loaded full of sugar and carbs! :P Pretty sure this is Jess's sarcasm at its best. :D I do miss fruit sometimes..... but I allow myself a tiny bit of berries now and again. :D

I think it would be best to let the OP speak for their self as we really do not know what a person is thinking...

It does not matter what kind of sugar I eat , it still made me feel awful . Every person does not reaction the same way to certain foods So it would not be wise to tell a person a natural sugar is safe for them to eat. I know , I got a headache eating a 'natural' sweeter . Just because a food is 'natural ' that does not mean it safe for everyone. My sister was fine eating the 'natural' sweeter , I was not .

I've heard of that too and yep it's true, but not for every red dye, others would be made differently..but yup its icky...

I have to be careful eating food with red dye that made with bugs , I get sick from it.

psshaw

Sugar is every addictive . This is not bull shit.
And it's the first ingredient in Oreos is sugar and it has high fructose and corn syrup too. So your are eating sugar with a little coco in it.

I said it is not *as addictive as cocaine.* There is NO comparison or equivalent!

High risk of addiction
Animal laboratory studies have demonstrated how addictive cocaine can be. Animals will work much more persistently for a cocaine bar than any other drug, even opiates. Addicted humans eventually prefer taking cocaine to any other activity - their lifestyles may alter completely as the addiction takes hold more firmly. There have been cases of mothers selling their child, professionals spending thousands of dollars with binges costing from $20,000 to $50,000. Some may lose their jobs, families, become bankrupt, and even die.

What Is Cocaine? How Addictive Is Cocaine?

Twix chocolate bar (2 sets in a packet), have as much FAT as 12 BACON STRIPES!! the kind you have for breakfast...

Not true.

Twix.com
Twix with the two sets of candy bars contains 12 grams of total fat.

One thin slice of bacon contains 2.1 grams of total fat or 25 grams of total fat for 12 slices of bacon.

One medium slice of bacon contains 3.3 grams of total fat or 40 grams of total fat for 12 slices of bacon.

One thick slice of bacon contains 5 grams of total fat or 60 grams of total fat for 12 slices of bacon.

Though when pan fried would yield about 3.2 grams (no mention what size slice of bacon).
Fat in Bacon

I'm assuming the medium slice of bacon that's pan cooked for comparison purposes which means that the two Twix bars contain the equivalent of 3.75 cooked bacon slices.

What Is Cocaine? How Addictive Is Cocaine?

"Our research supports the theory that high-fat/high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do," Schroeder told the Connecticut College News. "It may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them." This is the link I posted , to some people Oreos would be more addictive than cocaine . It depend on the person .

I would disagree. It's an entirely different chemical process on the brain when it comes to the degree of addictiveness between sugar and cocaine. I bet if you get somebody who is addicted to the sugary stuff start taking cocaine then it won't be long until cocaine wins out and become the primary drug of choice pushing sugar out of the picture. They'll be wanting more and more of the cocaine.

To say that "Oreos would be more addictive than cocaine" is pure nonsense unless you actually have a study or example of a sugar-addicted person going for the cocaine drug and knowing the end result. Or the other way around with a cocaine addicted person eating more and more of the sugary stuff and getting addicted to it pushing the need for cocaine out of the picture. If you can provide me those examples or studies then I'd might change my mind.

Funny how you never provided a source to your claim that a Twix candy bar has the equivalent fat of 12 bacon strips. You didn't even note the size of the slices, either where fat content can differ. But I did.

Analyzing on the nutritional amount laboratories must follow appropriate methods using the Association of Analytical Chemists (AOAC) in Official Methods of Analysis of the AOAC International, 18th edition (2005).

So, where did this "12 strip of bacon" claim of yours came from? Where is your source?

60 grams of fat from 12 strips of bacon is a lot of fat. But if you took the time to look at how much two Twix cookies weigh it's 50 grams. That won't work with the 60 grams of fat. Even with medium uncooked strips of bacon it'd be 40 grams of fat which would make up 80% of the cookies weight. That won't work. Thin slice would be 25 grams which would be 50% of the cookies' total weight but this candy is not a solid chocolate bar.

Using 12 cooked bacon slice at 3.75 grams of fat per slice would equal to about 45 grams of fat. Using your claim would mean that 90% of the calories from the two cookies (one Twix package) would come from fat. In short, your own claim gets shot down thusly.

Natural cacao beans contain between 50 to 58 percent fat by weight so you can't get any more fat out of chocolate than 58%. Dark chocolate contains 65 percent to 85 percent cacao. Fat content gets lighter as more sugar gets added to lessen the bitterness of natural chocolate.

18% of caramel by weight contains fat. So, that doesn't help your claim.

The cookie wafers or bars fat content is assuredly less than the chocolate itself.

One gram of fat is 9 calories. Fat is fat when it comes to calories amount which is still 9 calories per gram of fat. There are 250 calories for the two cookies. 110 calories are from fat or 12.2 grams of fat. 110/250 = 44% of the cookies' calories come from fat. Some put the fat calories at 120/280 which brings it down to 42% of the calories come from fat.

In short, your claim doesn't make sense.

:tears: I miss Oreos, How can you not love cookies with milk! OMG! So delicious! Okay okay, maybe not oreos, there are people that hate them..... ( Not sure how when they have TRIPLE STUFFED ONES!!! ) But, what about a warm, fresh baked chocolate chip cookie..... with an ice cold glass of milk in the winter? No? :tears: SO SAD! :(

I am a brownie person. I love warm brownies with a cold glass of milk! :)

Wow. In the seventies I recall the huge arguments over whether cocaine was addictive or not. Weird how times change, eh?

Candy Bars Calorie Counter

This web site has a list of candies and tell how fat etc are in each one . I am not sure it the web site it up to date as a lot food is being made smaller today.

Reminds me of something Wendy O. Williams once said to Mrs. Fields of Mrs. Fields cookies, she told her that she was no better than a heroin pusher because of all the processed white sugar she put in her cookies, making them highly addictive and then Mrs. Fields cried or at least pretended to.

When you don't have much money and you want something as a treat, people, including myself turn to these inexpensive foods that are really bad for you. I wish I could buy fruit, but that stuff is so expensive and I don't always feel like eating fruit and I'm bad at finding healthy alternatives.
