Deaf258 and I were talking this morning about WTC, and I kept on forgetting to show him the pictures of the new design for the WTC. I would like to know what you all think of this design by Liebeskind who was selected as the new architect for the new WTC complex. Granted, his project looks quite futuristic, but I think it is very nice design overall. I like the metro station.

Sounds and looks like a great idea...but it will never be the same with out the Twin Towers as it was seen as an international icon of New York for a long time. It would be nice for a simple memorial tribute to those who perished on 9/11/01.

In my own opinion it is ok ... too much tall building ... and we don't want it to be re flashback ..

I think there shouldn't be a building there, just a memorial tribute and leave the ground zero alone!

then the terrorists would have won

u dont get it cricket, The ground zero is now a sacred grounds of those who died, I would never trample on the lost souls who hasn't left the ground zero, I for one would just have a nice grass growing in the area, and a simple flowers surrounded with love by the families of the victims who plant them there, and a plaque of some sort to honor those who died with more that 2k names on it, and what's more we don't need more buildings in the name of money or offices, there are other buildings they can use, I doubt anyone would want to have an office or a home around there as the memories are too horific to be reminded of the devastation of those who died and for what? america is still alive today we fought and won and now we're living the freedom not letting them justifiy us in the name of a building trampling on the souls of those who died! i would'nt build anything there for any reason, thier doing it in the name of money not in the name of the poeple who died! I would vote NO for those, but then again its thier money and thier decision i don't live in NY anyhow, but i expressed my opioion, honor the poeple and the heros who died, they gave up thier lives and for what? osama wanted revenge on USA when USA hasn't done a damn thing to them except tell them no cruelity to humanity! and this was our payback, now payback to them is a bitch cuz we're still chasing him after 2 yrs, think abt the oakloma city bombing> they didn t rebuild the FBI building at all, what they did was make a memorial and leave those who died and perished in honor with thier names on it. this should be done for ground zero!

Actually, if you look closely... they will leave the ground zero alone. In the photos on the website displays huge pit (bathtub) where WTC used to be.

They are just building towers around the pit. So... yeah.

Ehhh, they're ugly. I'm not used to it, it's too weird for me to see something else replacing it. I still image those nice tall slender and shiny twin towers standing there. I don't think that any other buildings can make look better than them. Besides, I think it's best not to re-build anything on the grave of towers and the victims. I know I might sound nuts, I kinda want the same twin towers to be rebuild nearby ground zero. I miss them very much. :(

Tostitos seeing that pic SEE them WALKOING onto the pit?? thats not what it should be like and like E said u can't replace the bulding that was once a landmark of NY and its empotmie of the american dream NOW its gone and the ground zero should just have only nothing but a tribute thats my opioion! leave the ground zero alone basically I wouldn t build around it on it or anywhere near it! its now the tomb of the fallen heros and poeple as well!

After studying the pictures closely and reading the texts, I think it is an awesome project. The glass building at the centre of the complex will have a lot of lights and all the uneven metals on the wall, will evoke a feeling of jagged lights around the "pit" where the two twin towers collapsed. The walls on the side buildings looks like a puzzle box with missing pieces, so it certainly does remind of something that collapsed two years ago.

Here is what the architect had to say about the tall skyscraper:

The sky will be home again to a towering spire of 1776 feet high, the Antenna Tower with gardens. Why gardens? Because gardens are a constant affirmation of life. A skyscraper rises above its predecessors, reasserting the pre-eminence of freedom and beauty, restoring the spiritual peak to the city, creating an icon that speaks of our vitality in the face of danger and our optimism in the aftermath of tragedy. Life victorious.

So, I guess the tall tower will just be gardens and antennas, if I understood it right. The other towers being slanted on the top reminds something of being broken, and I think it adds to the design. I think this would be an awesome place for New York City, and I think it is about time NYC had something "interesting" architectually speaking.

Actually I think people do walk on cemeteries and also on the memorial grounds at Oklahoma City. What about the family and friends of the victims? They shouldn't be allowed to walk on the grounds too?

I disagree with you for not rebuilding anything, because it would send a message to the terrorists that they have succeeded in their aim to destroy a vital commerical area in NYC. In World War Two, a lot of buildings were bombed in Europe and Japan, but it did not stop them from rebuilding things again.

granted u might be right kootchie and i do respect ur opioion
it s TO me seeing a buidling after we witnessed the plane crashing and exploding causing us to think of the aftermath, I DO not MIND a bulding but nothing so futuristic and so non well i can't say exciting but more of thinking of this if u wanted a building build it in symetric of the similarity not of the futuristic thing GRANTED they say if we don t build the towers again it would show we won, but i think simplicity is the best way to go but BEFORE we do build another tower Why don t we build the memorial FIRST before the 5th anniversary? to show who we honor first the American poeple not the building itself the humanity!

okay then show me every single spot on this earth that every human being has passed away and we cannot walk upon them, I'm pretty sure there will be nothing for us to live on, thats what you are implying. And yes it was a terrible day but if you keep that attidude then america won't progress, that was the terrorists goal: to destroy us. America is all about growth, yes this deserve a memorial or something like this. Rebuilding is a symbol of healing and thats what we have to do. We have to show the rest of the world that we are healing and we are stronger as a result. Its not healthy to dwell on the place where many people died.

nice tower... instering.. but too many tall bulidings... and few months ago saw another picture of WTC design different one here is what i find..

cricket, read my post i made in regards to kootchie don't skip down :)

read it! good point too... only time will tell and I bet by 5 years it will start building anyways

I'd walk on Ground Zero and mingle with the spirits of the passed ones so they'd know I have not forgotten them.

To DeafSuba:

:laugh2: Yeah! That's our sign facing toward the middle east only if they understood it! Wish it was that but we've got to respect the fallen though. :|
