I was under the impression that it was a family's job to teach a child
then why send kid to school?

EVERY SINGLE PERSON here has yelled at me in the EXACT opposite way! EVERY one says that it is the family's responsibilty and the school is only a supplement. I guess whatever I say MUST be wrong...
Just wait. Maybe when your daughter grows up, she will tell you you did everything right, and you will feel happy then.
My situation is reversed, and my parents really didn't think I was right or capable, but my hearing children are successful and tell me often that I was great.
A child needs an entire community, not just their parents. They need their grandparents, friends, neighbors, all the people in their lives to be able to communicate with them.

Wirelessly posted
I've heard 20 months full immersion in a language is the fastest route to fluency. So, I'm trying to figure out how one or two working parents and siblings of a new baby are going to find that intensive learning environment and achieve fluency in 2-3 years. I'm amazed you have access to a class that can provide that in one year.
Where / what's the class you have access to?
Do you honestly believe everyone will have the exact same learning experience? Everyone is different with respect to how they learn and how they comprehend. You had a sucky teacher, to be honest. There were a few signs you did and now this confirms it.
Come on over, I'll show you some ASL 2 students that I think can be interpreters. Hell, about 50+ of them from University of Colorado...
Also.. My mother keeps telling people that I knew more signs than her since day one basically. What she did was give me the sign language dictionary in printed form and I learned that myself.
And growing up you both grow into the language from eachother. Look at me.. My mom isn't even close to fluent ASL, but she understands me and I understand her very well. She also uses big words and such, no problem.
THEREFORE: YOU CAN. Not "NOT"..
HA! Where does one go to find mentors. When I first came to this site years ago and in my area I asked for mentors. Not one! Not one from this or other sites or in my area. There are NO MENTORS! FJ is correct as many have pointed out. It is the parents responsibility to help teach their child.just like everybody else - mentors.

I asked in several places including my area. NONE! FAIL!Really, you ask in ALLDEAF? you should asked in ASLROCK.net. ALLDEAF are mostly deaf who are between world.
FJ,
I think when it comes down to it, some of them have a beef with you just cause they're concerned about preserving their culture...

Some would say that's the "real world". We can't always be all things to all the people all the time. For instance, I'm sure that even within the Deaf / ASL world, there were times that even some of the Deaf were a little rude to each other or had disagreements and so forth. As for asking people to repeat for me, I get lots of Knever minds" or "I will tell you laters."

Even hearing people are sometime also rude to one another, etc.
Exactly! but I am not in a small area. Chicagoland suburbs.oh well, I guess you live a very small area. From your past posts, you do have a child who can't benefit from CI, right? so I know you have to do something rather there is a mentor or not.
