Oh my God !!

That is actually a pretty neat little history of the hearing aid! I thought it was pretty cool. I laughed when I saw the glasses with the hearing aid built into them. I laughed only because my father in law had worn the HA glasses from the late 50s" until last year. After seeing Lilly in hearing aids, he got curious about new HAs. After explaining all of the advances in them, he decided he wanted a new pair. He was shocked when he heard the difference between 50 year old analog technology and 21st century digital technology!

Do you want this for Christmas? :eek3:

Yeah Kalista, That would make a good businessman's gift for Christmas with many, many Thank you and if I could shower many nice kisses on you !!!! The technology is updated for the 21th Century. :) :thumb: Thank you and God Bless !!!!

Oh my goodness... i still have the body worn aid.. somewhere in storage box.. lol..

thats the one i still have it.. haha.. my gosh! hehe.. :)

they didnt show but i recall wearing a BIG body hearing aid for school ONLY.. during school hours.. it was huge and not comfortable! grrr.. lmao! boy i was so glad to get BTE when i was 11. finally! :)

God, I remember I hated wearing those body hearing aid when I was a little girl. At one point when I was around 6 or 7 years old - I had dug a hole in the sandbox and buried it in there. My mother was looking for it for hours and hours. At the end, She finally found it in the sandbox and of course I was in trouble for that :giggle:
Also there was one incident that I had *laughs* tried to flush it in the commode. When my mom saw me trying to flush it in the commode, She had to reach in the commode to get the body hearing aid out of it. Of course, the body hearing aid was damaged. Again, yes I got in trouble for that :giggle:

Seriously, On the other note - Thank you for sharing the link. It was interesting to see how the hearing aid technology has evolved through the time.

Wow i cant believe your mom accidently *whap* your hearing aid into toilet.. ims ure you were pissed.. dang .. :(

I think how the society perceived hearing loss contributed a lot to the deaf people's anger towards oralism. Today, I think the world understands that there is nothing to be ashamed of hearing loss so nobody is trying to conceal hearing aids and cochlear implants. I think that it will help the deaf community to really feel like they have 100% freedom to choose whether they want to hear or not.

Wow very interesting info. I have used body worn aids and the bte hearing aid.. I hated the bodyworn one because it was not comfortable at all! As when I got older.. finally I can wear BTE all the time instead of waiting until after school to put it back on!

Eeek! I had worn a body aid til I was 9 or 10 (1975) Tired of holding it while jumpRope-Ing during the recess time at school. I often chewed the cord too. What a memories Diane

LOL yea same with me, I chewed on my hearing aid cord too :giggle:

Frag, your statement is very true. People are more aware that being deaf is nothing to be ashamed of. When we picked out the CI for my daughter they asked us if we wanted to get it in tan so it will not be as visible. We told them that we wanted it in silver. At Lillys young age, she has already shown that she really doent care what people think about her. Our tought was that we should not bother trying to hide the fact that she is deaf. When she was wearing HAs, we got the earmolds in hot pink. It is her favorite color, so of course we are going to chose it.
Along the same thought, I am convinced that blue tooth cell phones are contributing to people not even noticing hearing aids or cochlear implants.
Before I say this, you must realize that there are several stupid people running around this planet. But I have actually had a few people that noticed her CI approach and ask if she had "baby blue tooth".
I also get approached once or twice a week by people that notice her CI and they ask some pretty informed questions. I love talking to these people.
Slightly off topic, sorry
