still better than paying billions of dollars to our enemy countries which go down to terrorists attacking Americans

they are. they have a serious boner over it but the government's blocking them. they are constantly pushing government to lift the ban. Once lifted and allowed - the whole process takes usually 6-10 years until it becomes extremely profitable. ka ching!

Yep.exactly......And even the government estimate is below $40 a barrel

I'm sorry to say but, you are wrong about the road construction crews. I do agree with you that the state and city workers may work like that (5 guys watching one)but, my husband has worked for private companies in road construction for 27 years and they don't work like that. It's a very dangerous job. People don't slow down, they drive into traffic set ups, they drive drunk, not to mention a lot of those guys work 50 to 70 hours a week in all weather and at all times of the day and night. Next time your on the highway, watch how people pay attention to the signs and the workers. Believe me, you wouldn't want that job and it doesn't pay like you think it does.

Since my post is dealing with tax dollars I was referring to government funded crews.

I need your source about government estimate is below than $40 per barrel in 10 years after we start oil shale projects?

That's not going be happen since oil shale require higher oil price to be profitable so it need be $150 per barrel or more, however it is better than goes up to $300 per barrel.

I can't find so please show me again.

It sounds like wishful thinking.

I will wait and see until 10 years later after oil drilling ban has lift soon, probably in 2012-2013.

It's in the CNN article. I only need to read it once, and even I remember it.

Funny thing about the oil price though is that we haven't even hiked up to the actual real value of oil. :eek3:

Woohoo! $30 a barrel. Wonder how long before we we reach the peak of unconventional oil.

I don't necessarily believe it is the answer. I just don't believe in limiting options. Especially not options paid for by the private sector. Might be nice to have something to tide us over until we can move to a better source.

Good way to boost jobs too.

No worries. I am from the land of tar sands. ;)

However politics on the Prairies is a lot different from politics on the west coast though.

No doubt.....I am there often. I would actually hate to see more drilling occur off the California coast.....Last resort to me. I just hate when people say we don't have it.

Thanks, Souggy, it sounds like business writer has wishful thinking but I would wait and see in 10 years.

and investment on increase of gas mpg too.

US is supposed to doing oil drilling and oil shale in 30 years ago after oil crisis in 1973 and again in 1979 so it would be less political argument about oil driling today, even US should do something at earlier before start too late, IMO.

Brazil already have ethanol, E100 after oil crisis in 1970's.

Txgolfer, you sure have that correct. Talk about govt. getting in the way. I was 118 days under contract to VECO in the Ak. oil spill so have a little first hand knowledge. First at NO time did the Government tell us what we could do and all the time told us what we could not do! Are you aware that our beach cleaners were not allowed to pick up or move a rock! that they could only clean short time depending on tide and we do have a large tide variation in Ak. Occasionally as much as 30 ft. in Seward. On the rock cleaning, could not disturbe the inverionment. Now lets go to the birds and the bird washing, A great number of the birds did not need washing but were captured and brought in so that people could show numbers and maintain the jobs. Veco threw money around like paper. Had to make it look good to public in lower 48. I'm not complaining as I made some VERY good money but it is a shame to see it thrown around just to make public happy. Many of the beaches that never got cleaned are now just as presteen as they were before the spill. I personally brought in an eagle that was supposidly a victem of the spill. Turned out he had eaten a porkypine and a quill killed him. Yes there was some bird loss I'm sure but no on had ever looked at numbers before so really not sure what was natural attribution. We got weathered out one night and one of the bird people said " I'm not going to leave those birds in those little boxes over night" so he let them out and I opened the scubberds and last we saw of them they were happly paddling away and diving for food. Yes there is a LOT of oil in Ak. but we are not allowed to touch it due to regulation. When the Ak. pipe line was built Elpaso natural gas wanted to build a line next to it. Would have been a lot less expensive than now but were not allowed to do it due to fear that tankers carring it could spill. Ha, natural gas evaporates and goes up not down in the water and boy could this country use some of that now. As Regan said Government is not the solution to the problem, they are the problem.

ALREADY has been done...

A while ago... and the motor is not around.. Think about this: 600hp and 60mpg...

I want to be able to convert that to 200hp and like 100mpg, and contract with the usps.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT something is getting in the way..

we're not arguing about who is more right. We are all just presenting sources for our stances. Both sides have information and citations anyway. The best we can do is to be open-minded and come to agreement.

That's how it's done in politic and business. It ends with either a handshake or fist. :cool2:

Or agree to disagree. :). Unfortunately, the current crop of the politicians seemss to disagree with you if the deadlocked Congress is any example and I am not placing the blame entirely on the Republicans. The Democrats have contributed to some of it.
